Lead/Senior Designer, Physical

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Manage intricate physical substation design initiatives, encompassing yard layouts, grounding, conduit/trench, and foundations.

• Create detailed sections, elevations, and specifications for both brownfield and new construction scenarios.

• Supervise BOMs, specifications, and submission processes.

• Implement QA/QC protocols and ensure completion of checklists.

• Collaborate with Procurement on technical clarifications, substitutions, and long-lead items.

• Facilitate coordination among civil, structural, survey, SCADA/comms, and protection disciplines.

• Provide field support and update drawings as necessary.

• Ensure high-quality documentation and consistency in complex tasks.

• Engage with utility clients, EPC contractors, and project stakeholders to address technical challenges and aid in project execution.

• Assist in estimating design efforts, developing schedules, and planning design resource requirements.

• Mentor and guide junior team members.

• Conduct design evaluations and assign tasks to achieve project KPIs.

• Contribute to the establishment and enhancement of design processes, standards, and best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, drafting, or a related field.

• Generally, 7 or more years of experience in substation design across electrical and physical disciplines.

• Demonstrated leadership in project-level design.

• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and practical experience may also be considered.

• Advanced expertise in electrical and physical substation design, codes, and standards.

• Strategic technical decision-making abilities.

• Experience leading physical substation design projects ranging from 15kV to 345kV.

• Capable of planning workloads, forecasting design requirements, and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery.

• Preferably 2 or more years of mentorship or leadership experience.

• Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution abilities.
