This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.
• Oversee the engineering and design of transmission and distribution substation projects for utility, renewable energy, and industrial sectors.
• Offer technical direction on substation physical design, protection and control integration, grounding systems, equipment layouts, and power delivery infrastructure.
• Create and evaluate one-line diagrams, protection schemes, equipment specifications, construction packages, and design documentation.
• Utilize engineering knowledge throughout planning, conceptual design, detailed design, procurement, and construction support phases.
• Assist with grounding, equipment sizing, fault current analysis, and substation design studies and evaluations.
• Direct engineering responsibilities and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.
• Aid in project planning, resource coordination, technical reviews, and execution of projects.
• Supervise upgrades, expansions, brownfield modifications, and greenfield projects for substations.
• Recognize and address project risks in collaboration with project managers.
• Support construction activities through technical consultations, design clarifications, and resolving field issues.
• Cultivate relationships with utility, renewable energy, and industrial clients.
• Engage in client meetings, technical workshops, presentations, and project evaluations.
• Assist in proposals, defining scope, estimating costs, and pursuing project opportunities.
• Identify opportunities for service expansion and support strategic growth initiatives.
• Mentor engineers and designers while fostering knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, transmission, protection and control, and program management teams.
• Contribute to engineering best practices and ongoing improvement initiatives.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 6 years of pertinent experience, or proven equivalent experience and/or education.
• Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Familiarity with transmission and distribution substation projects.
• Strong grasp of electrical engineering principles, utility infrastructure, and power delivery systems.
• Experience in leading engineering tasks, reviewing technical outputs, and coordinating project teams.
• Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and NEC standards and codes.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, Aspen, CAPE, or comparable engineering and design software.
• Capability to work autonomously while effectively collaborating in a remote setting.
• Willingness to travel periodically for project, client, and team requirements.
• Advanced degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline with 10 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in utility, renewable energy, grid modernization, or energy transition projects.
• Background in mentoring engineers and contributing to technical leadership efforts.
• Familiarity with substation physical design, protection and control systems, SCADA integration, or similar power system applications.
