Lead Software Engineer, Testimonials

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +33 more states.

📋 Description

• Take complete ownership of the Testimonials platform, including its architecture, code quality, infrastructure, and overall production reliability.

• Manage and enhance the Kubernetes-based deployment, focusing on scaling, observability, cost management, and release processes.

• Make and document architectural choices for the platform.

• Maintain and enhance operational documentation for better clarity and efficiency.

• Oversee daily delivery for the Testimonials team by managing scoping, sequencing, and shipping in accordance with the product roadmap.

• Collaborate with Product on roadmap trade-offs, assessing technical feasibility, and planning releases.

• Establish engineering standards through code and design reviews, along with mentorship.

• Lead a small team of engineers, fostering their technical growth and sense of ownership.

• Manage the engineering workstream for SOC 2 compliance, covering access management, audit evidence, change control, and secure development practices.

• Collaborate with InfoSec and Compliance teams on controls relevant to a regulated-industry product.

• Develop compliance-aware features for the platform.

• Oversee the integration of Testimonials with the broader FMG platform, including shared identity, data, and related business systems.

• Work with FMG's AI Architecture function to integrate agentic and AI-assisted features into the Testimonials experience.

• Embrace AI-native development tools and standards, contributing effective practices back to the small team.

• Report to the SVP of Engineering and engage closely with Testimonials product leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience, including senior or lead technical ownership of a production SaaS product.

• Strong hands-on experience with running services on Kubernetes, including deployment, observability, and troubleshooting in a production environment.

• Proven track record of owning a codebase from start to finish.

• Experience leading a small team or workstream, including setting standards, reviewing work, and mentoring other engineers.

• Comfortable collaborating directly with Product on roadmap decisions and trade-offs, with the ability to communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders.

• History of reliably shipping in a small-team environment where you manage multiple disciplines.

• Adaptable in the face of ambiguity and shifting scope within a fast-paced environment.

• Preferred experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or an equivalent compliance certification.

• Background in wealth management, insurance, or other regulated financial services software is preferred.

• Experience integrating an acquired product into a larger platform is preferred.

• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted or agentic development tools is preferred.

• Familiarity with review, reputation, or content moderation products is preferred.

• Preferred familiarity with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and observability tools such as DataDog or CloudWatch.
