Lead Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Join a full-time role as the lead engineer for one of Beacon's portfolio companies and enhance the engineering capabilities of the business.

• Engage in daily production coding and deliver functional software to customers frequently.

• Familiarize yourself with and utilize the technology stack of the portfolio company.

• Revamp the software development lifecycle by implementing CI, testing, staging, feature flags, deployable workflows, and coding agents.

• Mentor current engineers and elevate the engineering practices within the team.

• Collaborate with the General Manager to establish the engineering roadmap and manage trade-offs.

• Implement coding-agent workflows to expedite delivery and educate the team on their usage.

• Integrate AI capabilities—including retrieval, tool utilization, evaluations, and guardrails—into production products.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years in software engineering, including roles as a tech lead, founding engineer, or CTO of a small company, or serving as the sole engineer maintaining a product.

• Proven experience in production software development across at least three different technology stacks.

• Proficient in learning and working with .NET, Rails, Python, TypeScript, Oracle, PHP, and other technology stacks.

• Experience in taking over challenging codebases and leading discouraged teams.

• Regular use of coding agents and capability to showcase an AI-assisted development setup.

• Ability to work autonomously with sound judgment.

• Experience in vertical or B2B SaaS is a plus.

• Experience in modernizing a legacy codebase without a complete rewrite is also a plus.
