
Lead SCADA Engineer – Critical Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Define and uphold the architecture, development standards, and best practices for SCADA systems.
• Establish design objectives for supervisory control systems, which include data modeling, alarm strategies, graphics philosophy, and system performance expectations.
• Lead the creation of SCADA code, scripts, templates, and reusable components.
• Ensure that SCADA systems are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with long-term operational requirements.
• Provide technical governance across various projects and platforms.
• Act as the senior technical lead for SCADA systems across multiple concurrent initiatives.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Field Leadership on planning, sequencing, and commissioning strategies.
• Convert operational requirements into high-level SCADA system solutions.
• Identify technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.
• Serve as the escalation point for complex integration, development, or commissioning challenges.
• Review and approve SCADA system designs, configurations, and development methodologies.
• Conduct peer reviews of SCADA configurations, scripts, and logic.
• Validate compliance with standards, cybersecurity considerations, and design objectives.
• Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Integrated System Testing (IST), commissioning, and live system transitions.
• Diagnose and resolve critical system issues during high-risk events.
• Mentor mid- and senior-level engineers through technical reviews, guidance, and coaching.
• Develop internal documentation, standards, and training resources.
• Encourage continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and engineering excellence.
• Complete assigned tasks and deliverables within budget and on time.
• Perform other related duties as required.
• 6–8+ years of experience in engineering SCADA control systems within mission-critical, industrial, or infrastructure environments.
• Proven experience in designing and developing SCADA systems, rather than merely configuring them.
• Strong knowledge of SCADA architecture and data modeling.
• Comprehensive understanding of alarm management and HMI/graphics philosophy.
• In-depth knowledge of system integration and communication protocols.
• Solid understanding of commissioning workflows, IST, and live system cutovers.
• Proven capability to review, critique, and enhance complex control system implementations.
• Ability to function as a technical authority without direct management responsibilities.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Capacity to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field is preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education and hands-on engineering experience will be considered.
• Valid driver's license and the ability to rent vehicles.
• A valid REAL ID or passport is required for domestic travel.
• Willingness to support extended hours during significant commissioning or cutover events.
• Preferred but not mandatory: SCADA platform certifications such as Ignition Gold, AVEVA/Wonderware, Siemens, Rockwell, or similar.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development in control systems, automation, or mission-critical infrastructure.
