This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assist in the analysis and reporting of performance and operability for both installed and uninstalled engines.
• Offer programmatic support for engine performance and operability within the Naval Air Warfare Center, Air Systems Group, Propulsion and Power organization.
• Engage in meetings related to aircraft platforms and/or engine teams as well as participate in significant project milestone events.
• Ensure that projects fulfill expectations, are completed on schedule, and are consistent with the objectives outlined in the Engine Management Plan.
• Deliver technical evaluations addressing issues, root-cause status, program risks, and recommendations for mitigation.
• Implement performance models for both installed and uninstalled engines.
• Analyze data and generate performance model reports in accordance with customer needs and established work processes.
• Effectively communicate, present, and document technical information regarding ongoing issues.
• Provide technical guidance to team leaders, systems engineers, business development engineers, and the branch manager.
• Mentor and train ESDP and junior engineers.
• A minimum of a BS degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering is required.
• At least 16 years of experience in aircraft or weapon system gas turbine engine performance and/or operability.
• An advanced degree (MS and/or PhD) is preferred.
• Familiarity with gas turbine engine design and operation, including performance modeling.
• Basic programming skills in NPSS, C++, Python, or MATLAB are necessary.
• Capability to perform technical assessments of engine performance and operability, including the specification of airworthiness products and processes.
• Knowledge of engine operability, control, and transient performance assessment.
• Understanding of ground and altitude test performance assessments as well as flight test performance principles.
• A secret security clearance is required.
• Proficient writing and speaking skills in English are essential.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is required.
• Preferred but not mandatory: experience in developing in-house gas turbine engine performance models.
• Preferred but not mandatory: intermediate programming skills in NPSS, C++, Python, or MATLAB.
• Preferred but not mandatory: experience in engine operability analysis and engine stability assessment.
• Preferred but not mandatory: experience in assessing inlets and exhaust nozzles, propeller performance, and wind tunnel testing.
