This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• The Lead SCADA and Telecom Engineer is tasked with overseeing and directing all technical elements related to the design deliverables of Electric Substation SCADA and telecom systems.
• Capable of providing functional design specifications for intricate SCADA and Telecom Systems, which may encompass multiple locations, typically including wind farms, both onshore and offshore substations, as well as Operations & Maintenance centers.
• The Lead SCADA and Telecom Engineer must possess creativity and leadership skills to guide their project design team in delivering a high-quality product within the specified timeline and budget.
• Responsible for reviewing and coordinating detailed designs from vendors and manufacturers to ensure the delivery of optimized, high-performing integrated SCADA and Telecom designs that adhere to specifications, relevant codes and standards, and incorporate safety into design practices.
• Ensure adherence to NERC CIP requirements, applicable cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443), Substation SCADA based on IEC-61850, DNP, and Telecom standards alongside industry best practices.
• Coordinate SCADA and telecom designs with other disciplines, including protection and control, primary design, site managers, commissioning engineers, and field personnel.
• Develop Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) procedures and engage in FAT and SAT processes.
• Prepare engineering estimates for telecom and SCADA systems.
• Estimate equipment quantities and costs for proposals.
• During project execution, liaise with the Project Engineering Manager to address engineering and design aspects impacting material costs, schedules, engineering budgets, safety, and quality.
• Effectively communicate with customers and report any potential opportunities for variations or risks to the project to the Project Engineering Manager and Project Manager.
• Willing to share knowledge with or mentor less experienced engineers.
• Actively participate in and contribute to enhancements in design procedures, standards development, quality, and productivity.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics/Information Technology/Telecommunication engineering from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of ten (10+) years of relevant experience, including at least three years in the design of Utility, Renewable, and/or Industrial HV & EHV substations’ SCADA and telecom systems.
• Proficient in both written and spoken English.
• Willingness to travel 20% of the time, including internationally, and adhere to all pertinent company travel and tax policies.

• Strong presence when interacting with customers.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NERC-CIP standards and guidelines related to Cyber Security (IEC 62443).
• Proven understanding of standard SCADA network architecture (HMIs, Gateways, RTUs) and protocols (OPC, DNP3, etc.) as applied to substation projects.
• Experience in the design and implementation of telecom networks for Offshore Wind or Oil & Gas Platforms.
• Familiarity with building scalable and highly available distributed networks.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850 based Digital Substations (PRP, HSR, RSTP) and cybersecurity equipment (VPN, Firewall, Router, NIDS, etc.) from various vendors.
• Familiarity with Telecom equipment and standards (MPLS, Multiplexer, WAN, LTE, 4G).
• Understanding of US Electric Utility customer design and construction standards and industry codes such as NEC, ANSI, and NERC-CIP.
• Licensed as a Professional Engineer with a willingness to serve as the engineer of record or a commitment to obtain certification within two years.
