Lead Revenue Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Manage daily revenue accounting tasks to ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition.

• Review customer contracts to establish the correct accounting treatment in accordance with ASC 606.

• Identify performance obligations and ascertain suitable methods and timing for revenue recognition.

• Assess standalone selling prices and distribute transaction consideration among performance obligations.

• Examine modifications, renewals, cancellations, expansions, and other alterations to customer agreements.

• Execute revenue recognition for software, SaaS, term licenses, professional services, maintenance, and other revenue streams.

• Analyze time-and-materials, fixed-price, milestone-based, and other professional services arrangements.

• Prepare and review calculations for revenue recognition, journal entries, and accompanying schedules.

• Monitor contract assets, liabilities, deferred revenue, and other revenue-related accounts on the balance sheet.

• Conduct monthly revenue reconciliations and explore discrepancies between billing, subledgers, and the general ledger.

• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including the preparation and review of revenue-related journal entries and account reconciliations.

• Review billing activities to ensure compliance with contractual terms and revenue recognition guidelines.

• Collaborate with Billing and Dispute Resolution teams to investigate and resolve revenue-related billing discrepancies.

• Offer accounting advice to Sales, Operations, Order Management, and other departments regarding contract structures and revenue implications.

• Maintain revenue accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.

• Identify and implement improvements in revenue processes, systems, controls, and reporting.

• Assist in the setup and maintenance of revenue recognition systems and automation.

• Prepare analyses and documents to support internal and external audits.

• Investigate technical accounting issues and document findings for complex or atypical transactions.

• Keep abreast of changes in accounting standards and evaluate their potential effects on the company’s revenue accounting practices.

• Provide training, guidance, and technical support to accountants and team members in Finance.

• Engage in special projects, process enhancements, system implementations, and other Finance initiatives as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.

• 8+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with considerable expertise in revenue accounting.

• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition standards.

• Proficient understanding of ASC 606 and its application to customer contracts.

• Experience in analyzing contracts and determining suitable revenue recognition treatments.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical accounting abilities.

• Exceptional attention to detail with the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

• Experience with ERP systems or revenue management solutions.

• Background in software, SaaS, technology, professional services, or subscription-based enterprises.

• Familiarity with complex, multi-element customer contracts.

• Knowledge of term and perpetual software licenses.

• Experience in professional services revenue recognition, including percentage-of-completion or other input/output methodologies.

• Skilled in evaluating standalone selling prices and allocating transaction consideration.

• Experience with contract modifications in line with ASC 606.

• Proficient in using Netsuite or similar systems.

• Experienced in revenue recognition automation and system implementations.

• Background in supporting external audits and technical accounting reviews.
