Lead QA Engineer, Automation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Facilitate daily Scrum activities as required, such as planning sessions, standups, reviews, and retrospectives.

• Analyze business requirements and user stories; lead task decomposition and estimation; propose alternative solutions and negotiate with Product Management.

• Take ownership of small to mid-sized engineering or QA projects or specific product areas.

• Define and supervise test automation and ensure quality delivery for the squad.

• Assess team members’ work for quality, architecture, and adherence to best practices.

• Diagnose and replicate issues identified by customers.

• Spearhead the integration of AI and Generative AI tools into QA processes.

• Utilize Generative AI for creating test cases, generating test data, and documentation purposes.

• Evaluate and advocate for AI-native QA tools and agentic IDE methodologies.

• Design and implement UI visual regression testing within CI/CD pipelines.

• Establish visual comparison baselines, screenshot strategies, and tolerance levels.

• Promote visual testing as a quality assurance gate.

• Lead the measurement and improvement of DORA metrics across engineering teams.

• Set up DORA reporting, establish targets, and create actionable dashboards.

• Tackle quality and process bottlenecks through automation, enhancing test coverage, and optimizing CI/CD practices.

• Collaborate with DevOps, SRE, and platform engineering teams to enhance reliability and deployment speed.

• Create automation code, develop standards, reusable test components, architecture documentation, and quality plans.

• Support build, deployment, and monitoring processes with a focus on security, performance, and scalability.

• Assess new technologies and practices for their applicability to QA.

• Mentor and enhance the QA practice through standards, tools, and cross-functional collaboration.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software QA Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 6 years of software development or SDET experience with a significant emphasis on automation.

• Strong expertise in TypeScript for test automation, tooling, and framework development.

• Comprehensive understanding of unit, integration, and load testing methodologies.

• Extensive full life cycle system development experience, encompassing design, building, testing, deployment, upgrades, and support.

• Familiarity with application lifecycle management tools such as JIRA.

• Knowledge of version control systems, work item tracking, and continuous integration practices.

• Hands-on experience with REST API testing.

• Solid understanding of BDD/TDD methodologies.

• Familiarity with SQL databases and the ability to write queries for test data validation.

• Experience with exploratory testing and CI/CD tools.

• Practical experience with Generative AI applied to software engineering or QA processes.

• Experience in implementing UI visual regression and comparison testing frameworks within CI/CD pipelines.

• Background in leading or contributing to DORA metrics measurement and improvement initiatives.

• Ability to adapt testing techniques, tools, and strategies to fit specific contexts.

• Experience testing complex microservice-oriented and distributed systems with fail-safe requirements.

• Understanding of shift-left and shift-right testing strategies.

• Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking abilities, and attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and influencing skills.

• Knowledge of performance tuning, scalability, security, reliability, and non-functional testing.

• Preferred qualifications include: AI-powered test generation, intelligent test maintenance, LLM prompt engineering, agentic-IDE practices, security/performance testing, engineering metrics programs, and experience with fitness/wellness or multi-tenant SaaS.
