Lead QA Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the complete testing lifecycle for Backcountry’s web, API, and mobile platforms.

• Establish scalable QA frameworks, automation methodologies, and release validation standards that facilitate a weekly deployment schedule.

• Advocate for shift-left practices, embedding quality checks early in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to minimize downstream defect costs.

• Enhance and sustain functional, regression, and performance/load testing coverage utilizing tools such as Playwright, Postman, and JMeter.

• Mentor, develop, and advance QA engineers, promoting a culture of quality ownership and ongoing improvement.

• Influence quality practices across engineering teams, even without direct oversight of all contributors.

• Promote Playwright as the primary automation framework and broaden coverage across web and API interfaces.

• Integrate automation within CI/CD pipelines and assist in release validation processes, including occasional after-hours deployments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in Quality Assurance and Testing, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership or senior individual contributor role.

• Demonstrated hands-on experience with Playwright for end-to-end automation of web and API.

• Strong foundation in automation practices across Cypress, Selenium, or similar frameworks; adept at building and maintaining scalable test suites.

• Proficient in Python, JavaScript, or Java; capable of working effectively in test frameworks and validating or rectifying AI-generated code.

• Extensive experience with functional, regression, and performance/load testing (Postman, JMeter, or similar tools).

• Proven experience in SDLC and Agile methodologies with robust defect lifecycle management using Jira and TestRail.

• Ability to work independently under a consistent release schedule and manage competing priorities without close supervision.
