This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Conducting comprehensive technical coordination that spans multiple disciplines for the creation of preliminary and detailed design deliverables for transmission line projects, encompassing electrical, civil, structural, geotechnical, and line design sectors.
• Crafting safe engineering solutions by utilizing initiative and judgment to execute tasks such as line routing, structure selection, conductor selection, problem analysis and resolution, as well as interpreting engineering specifications for medium- to highly complex projects.
• Addressing highly technical and atypical design and field engineering challenges by performing independent studies and analyses, exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data, and recommending safe engineering solutions to facilitate successful project completion.
• Providing exceptional customer service through effective communication with stakeholders and engaging in activities like defining the scope of engineering services, establishing design criteria (e.g., loading, clearances, routing), reviewing technical documentation, and assessing and reporting on progress to ensure safe, high-quality, timely, and budget-conscious project delivery.
• Coordinating design reviews, both internally and with clients, to guarantee that transmission line designs adhere to relevant codes, standards, client specifications, and CIMA+’s quality management system.
• Working in close collaboration with the Project Manager to align project scope, schedule, costs, risks, and engineering deliverables.
• Structuring engineering Work Packages and aiding in the development of the overall Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
• Facilitating coordination across engineering disciplines to ensure alignment of scope and deliverables.
• Managing technical interactions between disciplines, other functional areas, and stakeholders.
• Serving as the primary liaison with the Owner’s Engineering Team.
• Creating engineering cost estimates, scope of work descriptions, and engineering schedules for proposals.
• Tracking project progress and performance against defined terms of reference and work plans.
• Ensuring the quality and completeness of engineering deliverables while applying rigorous QA/QC practices to satisfy stage gate and quality requirements.
• Identifying, monitoring, and resolving technical challenges that may impact project budgets and timelines within established milestones.
• Consulting with clients, regulatory authorities, land agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance project execution, permitting, and effective information exchange.
• Collaborating with the client’s engineering team to tackle complex transmission line engineering issues, providing practical, solutions-driven support to manage and mitigate risks.
• Assisting the Construction Management team by coordinating engineering inputs, addressing site-related concerns, and ensuring timely responses to RFIs and field modifications.
• Over 10 years of experience in Transmission Line engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
• Registered member of the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or eligibility for registration.
• Advanced proficiency in electrical design for electric utility substations.
• Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE, and Canadian Utility standards.
• Valid Canadian Driver’s License.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English; knowledge of French is an advantage.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities, coupled with excellent initiative and attention to detail.
• Proficient in work organization and priority management, with a keen interest in teamwork within a rapidly changing environment.
• Sound professional judgment, initiative, and ability to thrive under pressure while managing multiple priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and dynamic environment.
• Capable of successfully collaborating in a team environment across various disciplines as well as working independently.
• Familiarity with Microsoft D365 is an asset.
• Experience in coordinating multi-discipline designs and construction projects is an asset.
• Client-focused and adaptable to respond to last-minute assignments and project-based client demands.
• Ability to manage and mentor junior engineers and technologists.
