Lead Product Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of Hc's product user experience across both desktop and mobile applications.

• Design features from inception to completion: including user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.

• Develop and uphold Hc's design system, user experience patterns, and visual identity.

• Collaborate with the team to conceptualize and design features from initial problem framing to final user experience.

• Work closely with engineering throughout the development process — addressing edge cases, making decisions on specifications, and ensuring quality upon release.

• Collaborate with the marketing team on product launches, landing pages, and user-facing feature presentations.

• Conduct research with students and brands to validate assumptions and improve user flows.

• Contribute to design initiatives beyond the core product when necessary — including marketing materials, landing pages, and brand refinement.

• Advocate strongly for the user experience and elevate the standard of design quality across all of Hc's outputs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in product design, preferably including time at an early-stage startup.

• Experience designing consumer applications, consumer software, or marketplace products.

• Proficiency in design tools — able to transition from sketching to high-fidelity designs quickly.

• Familiarity with design tools for creating product specifications.

• Comfortable using AI tools in the design process, or experienced in designing AI-driven features.

• Experience in building or contributing to a design system.

• End-to-end product thinking — your portfolio demonstrates problem framing, decision-making, and delivered outcomes, not just polished visuals.

• Strong product judgment — you champion user experience without causing delays, knowing when to advocate and when to proceed with shipping.

• Self-motivated — able to navigate ambiguity without requiring extensive management oversight.

• Excellent communicator with engineers, leadership, and non-designers alike.
