Lead Physical Substation Design Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +9 more states.

📋 Description

• Create designs for power utility substations in accordance with relevant codes and client standards.

• Develop general layouts, electrical and equipment schematics, elevation views, cable trench designs, grounding and conduit drawings, detailed specifications, bills of materials, and AC/DC power systems.

• Design ground grids utilizing applicable codes and industry-standard software.

• Formulate plans for lightning protection and grounding systems.

• Conduct calculations for AC/DC load, bus span, and ampacity.

• Generate equipment and material specifications for procurement, design scopes, and cost estimations.

• Prepare conceptual designs and layouts for facility planning studies.

• Compile documentation to support procurement, construction, and system operation/maintenance activities.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.

• Facilitate client meetings and conduct site visits.

• Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes, including the technical review and approval of engineering design packages.

• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.

• Over 10 years of experience in Substation physical design engineering.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

• Exceptional document management and organizational skills.

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality work.

• Capability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines concurrently.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively within a team and engage professionally with clients and stakeholders.
