Lead Member of Technical Staff – API Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable, reliable, and secure foundational enterprise platform solutions.

• Define and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for API Platform capabilities.

• Establish API-first and contract-first engineering methodologies across cross-functional teams.

• Guide complex initiatives across teams and address architectural dependencies and technical uncertainties.

• Design platform capabilities that support parallel feature development and incremental software delivery at scale.

• Act as a technical authority and collaborator with engineers, architects, product managers, and engineering leadership.

• Mentor engineers by providing architectural guidance, design insights, and technical coaching.

• Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools for architecture, development, testing, debugging, and documentation.

• Conduct technical design reviews that assess scalability, availability, security, performance, operability, and maintainability.

• Promote automated testing, continuous integration, observability, release management, and DevOps automation.

• Identify and mitigate systemic technical risks, architectural gaps, and opportunities for platform simplification.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production and platform issues that span systems and organizational boundaries.

• Leverage metrics, telemetry, and engineering data to assess platform effectiveness and inform technical investments.

• Assess emerging technologies and industry practices for platform scalability, developer experience, reliability, and efficiency.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 8 years of software engineering experience.

• Proven experience in designing and delivering large-scale enterprise or platform solutions.

• Experience in leading the architecture and delivery of complex systems across multiple teams, services, or product areas.

• Proficient in Java, Python, or JavaScript.

• Extensive understanding of API design, distributed systems, service-oriented architecture, and enterprise integration patterns.

• Experience with designing AWS infrastructure using VPC, Lambda, ECS, RDS, and API Gateway.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code and automated public cloud provisioning.

• Experience in designing automated CI/CD and DevOps pipelines, such as GitHub Actions or GitLab pipelines.

• Experience with AI-assisted coding and engineering tools that include quality, security, and review controls.

• History of delivering business-critical software in complex, fast-paced environments.

• Ability to make architectural decisions amidst ambiguity and communicate technical trade-offs effectively.

• Strong problem-solving capabilities for intricate systemic engineering challenges.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Proven experience in influencing technical direction across teams.

• Experience in building APIs and services using contract-first development.

• Ability to utilize metrics and data for continuous improvement and informed technical decisions.

• Capability to mentor senior engineers and elevate technical standards.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Salesforce technologies, platforms, or enterprise SaaS.

• Preferred: Knowledge of enterprise API architecture, lifecycle management, integration patterns, and governance.

• Preferred: AWS certifications or equivalent cloud architecture expertise.

• Preferred: Experience with event-driven and asynchronous architectures using Kinesis, SNS, SQS, or EventBridge.

• Preferred: Proficiency in Docker and Kubernetes.

• Preferred: Reusable CI/CD platforms, deployment frameworks, or developer productivity tools.

• Preferred: Expertise in highly available, observable, resilient distributed systems at enterprise scale.

• Preferred: Experience with technical standards, reference architectures, or platform capabilities adopted across engineering organizations.
