
Lead Mechanical Engineer, Power Uprates – Nuclear

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Conduct consulting-level tasks for nuclear power uprates.
• Collaborate with clients and project teams to deliver technical presentations and project updates.
• Create engineering proposals and cost assessments.
• Oversee resources/resource allocation, and generate task completion and budget projections.
• Analyze calculations pertaining to heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condensers/heat sinks, and plant hazards.
• Evaluate task reports and equipment assessments for clear and concise technical communication.
• Assess equipment sizing, optimization evaluations, and selection for proposed power uprates.
• Review vendor bids from a technical standpoint.
• Collaborate with vendors for document evaluations and equipment compliance.
• Guide and mentor junior engineering personnel.
• Execute independent reviews of calculations and drawing preparations.
• Participate in client meetings and site inspections to confirm scope and ensure client satisfaction.
• Spearhead the implementation of automation and AI-enabled engineering workflows, including the review of automated outputs.
• A BSME degree from a program accredited by the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission is required.
• A strong academic foundation and enthusiasm for thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• Over 10 years of experience within the nuclear power sector.
• Familiarity with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Practical expertise in one or more areas, such as power uprates, pinch point assessments, turbine/generator/AVR/exciter refurbishments, heat exchanger replacements, isophase bus duct, transformer/switchyard, or NSSS systems licensing applications.
• Exceptional technical report writing abilities.
• Understanding of mechanical engineering systems, principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment applied to project design.
• Strong interest in numerical computations and problem-solving.
• Working knowledge of mechanical engineering codes, standards, and regulations relevant to nuclear power plants.
• Proficient in MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must not require employer sponsorship for work authorization in the U.S.
• An MSME degree and PE License are preferred but not mandatory.
• Willingness or capability to lead engineers utilizing automation and AI tools.
• Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel automation oversight is valued but not essential.
