Lead Environmental Qualification Engineer – Nuclear

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with engineers specializing in component qualification as well as those from various disciplines.

• Mentor less experienced members of the project team.

• Engage in license renewal and upgrade/modification projects for nuclear power plants.

• Utilize knowledge of component environmental qualification in relation to 10CFR 50.49 equipment.

• Prepare and evaluate engineering calculations.

• Review qualification reports from vendors.

• Create specifications.

• Update client design basis documents.

• Assist clients with inquiries related to environmental qualification.

• Conduct qualified-life assessments for environmental qualification using the Arrhenius method.

• Revise qualification documentation.

• Execute linear regression analysis to establish activation energies.

• Manage environmental qualification testing at designated testing facilities.

• Facilitate the resolution of anomalies with sites and testing facilities.

• Perform analyses on the suitability of equipment materials.

• Review maintenance and surveillance obligations.

• Evaluate EPU and the potential effects of accidents on equipment.

• Assess the impact of radiation dose on environmental qualification equipment due to fuel and fuel-cycle modifications.

• Potentially travel to client and vendor offices for design assessments and to plant sites for construction coordination and on-site design verification.

• Lead initiatives in engineering problem-solving, automation, process enhancement, and supervision of AI-enabled engineering workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) in engineering, focusing on Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

• A minimum of ten (10) years of experience related to component environmental qualification activities within the nuclear power plant sector.

• Understanding of the functionality of nuclear power plant equipment, including materials of construction and failure modes.

• Familiarity with NRC IE Notices, Bulletins, and Generic Letters.

• Knowledge of industry DOR plant requirements, including 10CFR Part 50.49, 10CFR Part 21, Regulatory Guides, NUREG and EPRI Documents, IEEE 323, IEEE 383, IEEE 334, IEEE 317, and other IEEE Standards relevant to environmental qualification.

• Proficient in MS Office applications.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• U.S. work authorization; the employer does not provide sponsorship for work authorization in the U.S.

• A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not mandatory.

• Willingness or capability to lead others utilizing modern tools such as automation and AI.

• Additional education in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields is preferred but not required.

• Experience in overseeing automation using Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel is valued but not required.
