Lead Engineer, Transmission

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Act as the Lead Engineer for transmission line projects, overseeing everything from initial planning to detailed design, construction support, and project completion.

• Direct the engineering and design efforts for overhead and underground transmission line projects with voltage levels between 69kV and 765kV.

• Conduct and assess engineering calculations such as conductor selection, structure loading, sag and tension analysis, line ratings, clearance analysis, foundation loading, and coordination of structural design.

• Create and evaluate transmission line plans, profiles, staking sheets, construction packages, and technical specifications.

• Offer technical leadership and engineering guidance to Engineer I, Engineer II, designers, and drafters.

• Collaborate with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, survey, permitting, and project management teams to ensure project execution.

• Execute engineering quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews to guarantee adherence to client standards, company procedures, and relevant industry codes.

• Tackle complex engineering issues by assessing alternatives and crafting practical, cost-effective solutions.

• Review vendor drawings, technical submissions, engineering reports, and construction documentation.

• Engage in client meetings, technical presentations, and engineering reviews, acting as the main technical contact for assigned projects.

• Assist in proposal development by drafting engineering scopes, technical strategies, labor estimates, and project timelines.

• Aid Engineering Management with workload planning, resource forecasting, and project staffing recommendations.

• Mentor junior engineers through technical guidance, design evaluations, and professional growth activities.

• Support Engineer-in-Training (EIT) employees in their pursuit of Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

• Provide engineering assistance during construction, including addressing Requests for Information (RFIs), reviewing field modifications, and resolving construction challenges.

• Conduct field investigations, constructability assessments, and site visits as necessary.

• Stay updated with the latest developments in transmission engineering practices, software, utility standards, and industry regulations.

• Identify and implement opportunities to enhance engineering processes, design standards, and project execution efficiencies.

• Perform additional tasks as delegated by management.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution.

• A minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in transmission line engineering.

• A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required, or the ability to acquire it within a specified timeframe.

• Proven experience serving as the lead engineer on intricate transmission line projects.

• Extensive knowledge of transmission voltage levels from 69kV to 765kV.

• Strong familiarity with NESC, ASCE Manual 74, ASCE 10, IEEE standards, and utility engineering practices.

• Advanced proficiency in transmission engineering software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, TOWER, or equivalent.

• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other engineering drafting software is preferred.

• Background in supporting EPC, utility, consulting engineering, or electric transmission organizations is advantageous.
