Lead Engineer – Overhead Transmission Line Design

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Plan, direct, and coordinate civil and structural analysis while overseeing the completion of projects for high-voltage electrical transmission lines.

• Generate calculations, construction drawings, contracts, technical specifications, and design standards for distribution and/or transmission lines.

• Conduct civil and structural engineering analyses and design layouts for transmission lines up to 500kV.

• Prepare intricate engineering deliverables.

• Organize and facilitate design review meetings.

• Develop and support construction contracts, material take-offs, material standards, and technical specifications.

• Create drawing packages for bidding, construction, as-built documentation, and submittal objectives.

• Investigate and recommend selections for equipment and materials.

• Coordinate construction operations and evaluate submittals.

• Communicate project scopes, budgets, and timelines.

• Assist in managing project budgets.

• Create training modules and initiatives as requested by the Principal Engineer.

• Stay informed about relevant regulations, laws, standards, and best practices, including NERC Reliability and the National Electric Safety Code.

• Offer technical direction and support in guiding the work of others.

• Act as a liaison for construction field crews and project management.

• Contribute to business development and pursuit efforts.


⛳️ Requirements

• 5–10+ years of experience in overhead transmission line design.

• Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and practices.

• Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, from an ABET-accredited institution.

• Ability to assess problems and formulate effective strategic and functional solutions.

• Capability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and manage projects with little oversight.

• In-depth knowledge of civil and structural transmission line design and field construction methods.

• Advanced proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, and MFAD software.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and standard business applications.

• Understanding of surveying techniques, practices, and procedures.

• Comprehensive knowledge of safe working practices associated with electric transmission lines.

• Strong abilities in teamwork, quality assurance, and time management.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• PE license is required.

• Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% of the time.

• Valid driver’s license is necessary.
