Lead Engineer, Database Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Design and manage the production AI/ML infrastructure, including model serving (SageMaker, Bedrock, self-hosted LLMs on EKS), training pipelines, and optimization of inference.

• Take ownership of the FICO Assistant database layer, which includes provisioning, scaling, performance tuning, and disaster recovery for: Amazon OpenSearch — embeddings and vector search (k-NN indexes for RAG).

• Amazon DocumentDB — managing conversation/session storage with MongoDB-compatible schema design, compound/TTL indexing, and change streams.

• Aurora PostgreSQL — serving as the backend for Langfuse observability.

• Amazon ElastiCache Redis — maintaining the Langfuse caching layer (shard management, eviction policies, Multi-AZ failover).

• Develop Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Crossplane, CloudFormation) for all AI/ML and database resources.

• Create CI/CD pipelines for ML systems, incorporating automated testing and model validation gates.

• Set up monitoring and alerting via CloudWatch and Grafana for all database and AI/ML services.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in infrastructure/platform engineering, with at least 3 years dedicated to AI/ML infrastructure.

• Proficient in hands-on ML model serving using SageMaker, Bedrock, vLLM, or TGI.

• Experience in vector search and embedding index management, particularly with OpenSearch k-NN, dimension tuning, and index optimization for RAG.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes (EKS) for ML workloads, including GPU node pools, autoscaling, and service mesh LLM application patterns: conversation memory, guardrails, and agent frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex).

• Knowledge of database security practices, including IAM authentication, TLS, encryption, and fine-grained access controls.
