Lead Electrical CAD Engineer – Data Center Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring designs for intricate industrial systems.

• Design and document power distribution, protection, grounding, and control circuits for power distribution and cooling platforms.

• Ensure that electrical designs adhere to functional performance, safety, reliability, and serviceability standards.

• Address electrical packaging and integration challenges in relation to mechanical layouts, thermal limitations, and enclosure architectures.

• Implement configuration-controlled electrical designs for various product variants, options, and regional differences.

• Maintain design stability and traceability through engineering changes.

• Apply ECR/ECNs while ensuring compliance, backward compatibility, and production continuity.

• Coordinate schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs, and PLM records throughout the product lifecycle.

• Design systems that comply with IEC, UL, regional standards, and customer specifications.

• Assist in compliance activities with documentation and responses to design findings.

• Create detailed panel layouts that include component placement, wire routing, and labeling.

• Ensure that wiring designs are manufacturable, accessible, and service-friendly.

• Support prototype builds, production ramp-up, and resolve manufacturing issues through design updates and clarifications.

• Collaborate with mechanical engineering to ensure fit, clearance, airflow, and thermal compatibility.

• Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and production teams to address build issues, substitutions, and feedback.

• Participate in technical design reviews and release readiness activities.

• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of electrical CAD practices, documentation clarity, and configuration discipline.

• Engage with customers and supply chain partners to evaluate requirements, identify challenges, and design comprehensive infrastructure solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.

• Over 8 years of hands-on electrical CAD design experience with industrial or infrastructure-class equipment.

• Strong expertise in EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, and/or Edge Electrical.

• Proven experience in designing power distribution and control systems for complex, multi-variant products.

• Familiarity with IEC, UL, and regional electrical compliance standards.

• Ability to independently execute and take ownership of complex electrical designs with minimal supervision.

• Preferred: electrical design experience for power and cooling systems, switchgear, transformers, busway, PDCs, CDUs, chillers, or thermally intensive infrastructure.

• Preferred: experience with switchgear, control panels, and industrial power systems.

• Preferred: background in panel layout, wire routing, and electrical-mechanical integration.

• Preferred: knowledge of PLM systems and formal product release and change control procedures.

• Preferred: experience supporting both NPI and sustaining engineering in production settings.

• Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and/or internationally (rare).
