This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the application of Decision Intelligence and agentic AI within the NBA platform.
• Examine and formalize business decisions that enhance member engagement.
• Convert objectives, constraints, policies, and data into organized decision models.
• Identify areas where rules, predictive models, reinforcement learning, optimization, or agentic systems add value.
• Design and construct production-grade decision intelligence capabilities.
• Create and implement production agent workflows utilizing LangGraph and LangChain.
• Develop AI-driven Action Library features for the creation, refinement, validation, governance, and optimization of member actions.
• Integrate Azure OpenAI and enterprise models via Humana's AI Gateway.
• Design retrieval-augmented architectures leveraging vector search, semantic retrieval, and knowledge grounding.
• Operationalize reinforcement learning and decision optimization models within NBA workflows.
• Establish evaluation frameworks for assessing recommendation quality, agent performance, adoption, business results, and operational efficiency.
• Implement AI governance, safety measures, observability, traceability, policy controls, human oversight, and auditability.
• Lead and mentor AI engineers while steering the Decision Intelligence workstream.
• Architect and manage highly available, low-latency, horizontally scalable microservices.
• Design versioned APIs, database schemas, catalogs, lifecycle management, rule bindings, and metadata relationships.
• Integrate rules engines like Drools, IBM ODM, DMN services, or OPA/Rego.
• Ensure deterministic, versioned, stateless rule execution without unintended consequences.
• Utilize AI tools for generating and refactoring schemas and service logic, authoring and validating rules, detecting conflicts, producing tests, and exploring edge cases.
• Develop automated tests for migrations, schemas, API contracts, rules, precedence, and edge cases.
• Ensure observability, structured logging, metrics, alerting, error handling, fallback strategies, and incident management.
• Support audit and compliance through traceable and reproducible system behavior.
• Collaborate with platform, data, machine learning, product, business, decision science, and engineering teams.
• Engage in architecture and design reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline.
• Over 6 years of experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, AI engineering, or decision intelligence, with at least 1–2 years in a technical leadership role.
• At least 8 years of progressive IT experience as a senior developer on large IT projects.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in project leadership.
• Strong proficiency in Python engineering for building and operating production AI systems.
• Practical experience with LangGraph, LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar orchestration frameworks.
• Experience in integrating Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Vertex AI, Anthropic, OpenAI, or similar enterprise AI platforms.
• Solid understanding of Decision Intelligence principles, including decision modeling, optimization, decision automation, objectives, constraints, and outcome measurement.
• Experience with tool calling, structured outputs, retrieval-augmented generation, memory management, and workflow orchestration.
• Proven experience in building AI evaluation frameworks, automated evaluations, human review processes, performance measurement, and experimentation.
• Ability to map business processes into formal decision frameworks.
• Demonstrated capability to lead a small engineering team while remaining hands-on.
• Excellent communication skills for articulating complex AI and decision architectures to senior leadership.
• A strong passion for contributing to an organization dedicated to enhancing consumer experiences.
• Minimum home internet speed of 25 Mbps for downloads and 10 Mbps for uploads.

• Availability to work standard Monday–Friday business hours, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
• Some travel to Humana offices may be required.
