
Lead Data Scientist – Autonomous Goal Management

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design and implement mechanisms for goal-setting and decomposition tailored for autonomous agents operating in uncertain or open-ended settings.
• Create dynamic planning systems, encompassing hierarchical planning, curriculum learning, and self-refinement loops.
• Collaborate on designs for memory, tool usage, and feedback loops that facilitate multi-step, self-directed agent behaviors.
• Establish evaluation frameworks to ensure alignment with human intent, consistency, and progress toward long-term objectives.
• Prototype agents that interface with APIs, MCP servers, search engines, databases, or real-world actuators to achieve goals in a safe and efficient manner.
• Investigate methods to identify and reduce goal misalignment, looping behavior, or unwanted emergent strategies.
• Collaborate across teams to synchronize goal alignment with safety, alignment, and operational reliability measures.
• Master's Degree.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in research/ML engineering or as an applied research scientist.
• Preferably focused on the development of production-ready AI solutions.
• At least 2 years of experience leading the development of AI/ML systems.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and data analysis/data mining tools.
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, LangChain, LangGraph, or AutoGen.
• Experience with high-performance, large-scale ML systems.
• Background in language modeling with transformers.
• Expertise in symbolic planning, causal reasoning, and model-based reinforcement learning.
• Experience with large-scale ETL processes.
• Ability to work from a dedicated space without ongoing interruptions to safeguard member PHI/HIPAA information.
• Reliable home internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speed.
• A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field is preferred.
• Proven experience in deploying autonomous or semi-autonomous agents in production or simulation is preferred.
• Familiarity with LLM-based agents utilizing scratchpad/self-reflection or hierarchical task decomposition is preferred.
• Understanding of autonomy risk mitigation strategies, such as off-switch protocols or bounded rationality, is preferred.
