• Oversees daily tasks within the hospital information system's work queue for laboratory billing, ensuring correct registration, CPT/HCPCS code modifiers, and relevant cost centers.
• Conducts laboratory billing edits, assesses billing and coding compliance, and reconciles billing discrepancies.
• Computes and manually enters charges for various tests and zero-dollar CPT codes.
• Collaborates with revenue integrity to address billing and coding discrepancies, ensuring compliance with timely filing requirements.
• Detects unusual billing issues or trends and communicates with the responsible parties to facilitate resolution.
• Works alongside clinical, financial, IHT, leadership, and staff to guarantee that coding, charging, reporting, and reconciliation processes operate effectively.
• Assesses customer inquiries and concerns, provides education, resolves discrepancies, and escalates issues to leadership when necessary.
• Identifies and develops strategies for quality improvement opportunities, suggests appropriate solutions, and collaborates to standardize processes.
• Submits requests for laboratory charging, price calculations, and adjustments to the fee schedule via the Charge Master request process.
• Keeps updated on current Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, coding and billing updates, regulatory compliance, documentation requirements, payer policies, and laboratory billing practices.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
• High School diploma/GED or 10 years of relevant work experience.
• Minimum of two years' experience in a related field.
• Regular lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing between 0-25 lbs.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive movements of the foot/leg and hand/arm.
• Consistent use of vision and depth perception for near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, as well as the ability to identify and differentiate colors.
• Regular use of hearing and speech for effective oral communication.
• Ability to hear alarms and malfunctioning machinery.
• Frequent keyboard usage and data entry.
• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
• Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
• Rarely required to climb.
