Junior DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Design and sustain infrastructure as code utilizing Ansible, Docker, and cloud platforms (AWS), treating infrastructure similar to a software project — version-controlled, tested, and subject to review.

• Create internal tools and automate processes using Python or Bash to enhance deployment, monitoring, and data workflows.

• Take ownership of CI/CD pipelines — establish, refine, and maintain continuous integration and deployment procedures to enable our teams to deliver with confidence.

• Oversee and optimize databases (MySQL), covering aspects such as backups, performance tuning, and query optimization.

• Manage and enhance our Linux-based server infrastructure, which includes our on-premise Proxmox environment and cloud resources.

• Deploy monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure high availability and swift incident response (e.g., Grafana, NewRelic).

• Enhance security and compliance measures — from firewall management and system hardening to access control and update policies.

• Work collaboratively with Engineering, Data Science, and Product teams to support data pipelines, internal tools, and deployment workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong foundation in Linux system administration (Debian/Ubuntu, shell scripting, systemd).

• Knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPNs, reverse proxies).

• Hands-on experience with at least some of the following: Ansible, Docker, Git, CI/CD tools.

• Proficiency in Python or Bash programming — you're adept at creating more than just one-off scripts.

• Experience with or keen interest in MySQL (administration, queries, performance).

• A DevOps mindset: you prioritize automation, reproducibility, and continuous improvement.

• Curiosity about modern infrastructure topics such as containerization, infrastructure as code, and cloud-native architectures.

• Bonus: familiarity with tools like Terraform, GitHub Actions, Vercel, Proxmox, or monitoring stacks.

• Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and enjoy addressing challenges across the entire stack.

• Proficient in spoken and written English; knowledge of German is a plus but not mandatory.
