Junior Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Investigate and prepare datasets by performing cleaning, feature engineering, and conducting exploratory analysis on both structured and unstructured data (text, image, tabular).

• Train and assess machine learning models under the mentorship of senior scientists, gaining experience in transitioning from a functional prototype to a production-ready system.

• Develop and sustain Python code that operates in production, including scripts, pipeline components, and data processing tasks, with support provided through code reviews.

• Assist in the creation and testing of components for LLM-powered systems, such as prompt templates, evaluation scripts, data loaders, and retrieval pipelines.

• Conduct experiments in a systematic manner: track hypotheses, log results, and clearly communicate findings to the team.

• Learn and implement software engineering best practices including Git workflows, testing, documentation, and CI/CD in your daily work.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree in a quantitative field (such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, or a related area) or equivalent practical experience.

• Strong grasp of ML fundamentals, including supervised vs. unsupervised learning, overfitting, evaluation metrics, and basic model selection techniques.

• Proficient in Python — capable of writing functions, utilizing libraries, debugging errors, and understanding others' code.

• Familiarity with essential data science libraries such as pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn.

• Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow is advantageous.

• Relevant project experience in ML, whether from academic projects, personal initiatives, internships, or competition entries, will be considered.
