This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Utilize Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to assess, reconcile, and report on intergovernmental transactions.
• Create financial schedules that support elimination entries and address discrepancies with trading partners.
• Prepare and enter U.S. Standard General Ledger (USSGL)-compliant journal entries to ensure precise financial reporting.
• Review payroll accounting transactions before posting to confirm their accuracy and compliance.
• Generate payroll accruals and reconcile payroll disbursements from various payroll sources against U.S. Treasury disbursements.
• Identify, investigate, and rectify payroll accounting discrepancies, preparing corrective journal entries as necessary.
• Reconcile Fund Balance with Treasury (FBWT) to the agency's financial reporting and analyze variances.
• Document findings from reconciliations, suggest corrective actions, and prepare USSGL-compliant journal entries to address identified discrepancies.
• Ensure that all reconciliations, journal entries, and accompanying documentation adhere to federal accounting standards, agency policies, and reporting requirements.
• Bachelor's degree and 2 or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• A seasoned accounting professional with strong analytical, organizational, and time-management abilities.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to collaborate effectively across various teams.
• Proven ability to work as part of a team in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environments.
• Experience in supporting federal accounting operations, including general ledger functions and monthly financial closing processes.
• Background in preparing and analyzing financial statements.
• Capability to interpret and apply U.S. Treasury USSGL accounting scenarios or similar private-sector accounting standards.
• Demonstrated skill in building and maintaining strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience in developing, documenting, and communicating financial management policies, procedures, and operational guidance.
• Ability to implement and support modifications to financial management practices and financial system operations.
• Strong attention to detail with the capacity to analyze intricate financial data and propose effective solutions.
