IT Infrastructure & Operations Engineer – SysOps

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Assume full technical responsibility for infrastructure operations, encompassing physical servers, virtualization platforms, operating systems, networking, and associated services.

• Oversee, diagnose, and enhance Windows Server and Linux environments.

• Manage virtualization platforms and oversee infrastructure capacity, performance, lifecycle, and operational health.

• Identify and rectify single points of failure, configuration vulnerabilities, technical debt, and operational hazards.

• Organize infrastructure maintenance activities to minimize business disruption.

• Operate and uphold backup and recovery solutions, including monitoring execution, retention, integrity, and storage capacity.

• Execute scheduled recovery tests and uphold validated restoration processes.

• Maintain and implement disaster recovery protocols in alignment with RTO and RPO requirements.

• Administer networking infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, VPNs, Wi-Fi, and network segmentation.

• Diagnose routing, DNS, DHCP, connectivity, and network performance challenges.

• Ensure secure administrative access, network configurations, and infrastructure access controls.

• Execute security hardening, operating system updates, and vulnerability remediation.

• Lead incident response for infrastructure, restore services, coordinate resolutions, and communicate operational status.

• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive measures.

• Plan and carry out infrastructure changes using impact assessments, testing, maintenance windows, and rollback procedures.

• Oversee infrastructure monitoring, alerting, and operational visibility.

• Develop scripts and automation to minimize manual tasks and operational errors.

• Maintain infrastructure documentation, diagrams, inventories, and operational runbooks.

• Collaborate with IT Support, Information Security, and Digital Transformation teams.

• Provide technical recommendations, risk assessments, and implementation options to the Head of IT.

• Ensure documentation and knowledge transfer facilitate operational continuity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience managing production or business-critical infrastructure.

• Advanced administration skills in Windows Server and Linux systems.

• Strong experience with Proxmox, VMware vSphere, OpenStack, or similar enterprise virtualization platforms.

• Comprehensive understanding of virtualization clusters, storage, resource allocation, networking, and high-availability concepts.

• Demonstrated experience in implementing and maintaining backup and disaster recovery solutions.

• Practical experience in restoring systems and troubleshooting infrastructure failures.

• In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPNs, and firewalls.

• Hands-on experience with enterprise networking equipment, preferably MikroTik or HPE Aruba.

• Understanding of network segmentation, infrastructure hardening, secure administration, and access control.

• Experience managing patching and vulnerability remediation.

• Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring solutions such as Zabbix, Prometheus, or similar tools.

• Proficiency in automating operational tasks using PowerShell or Bash.

• Capability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple infrastructure layers.

• Experience managing infrastructure incidents and conducting root cause analysis.

• Practical knowledge of change management, maintenance planning, rollback procedures, and risk assessments.

• Familiarity with Jira Service Management or equivalent ITSM/ticketing solutions.

• Ability to create clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, runbooks, and recovery procedures.
