IT Consultant – Symphony ILS Migration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist Library personnel in the fresh setup of the Symphony application and Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) on a STIG-hardened Linux server.

• Provide guidance on ensuring version compatibility between the newly installed system and the existing production setup.

• Identify and recommend security exceptions, permission modifications, and configuration requirements related to STIG for optimal operation of Symphony and MSSQL.

• Offer consultation regarding Oracle legacy database export methods and the execution of configuration backups.

• Supply tools and detailed instructions for converting the ANSEL character set to Unicode.

• Aid Library staff in restoring databases and importing converted Unicode data into the new MSSQL instance.

• Facilitate smoke testing and preliminary validation of the system on the new server.

• Guide network engineers in updating DNS records to shift library traffic to the new setup.

• Assist in configuring the Enterprise discovery layer to verify connectivity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical experience with Symphony ILS, encompassing installation, configuration, and migration.

• Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) — including installation and database import/restore processes.

• Experience in exporting Oracle databases and extracting legacy data.

• Familiarity with Linux environments that are STIG-hardened and operating within security-restricted configurations.

• Understanding of ANSEL-to-Unicode data conversion processes for bibliographic or library records.

• Experience in DNS configuration and ensuring connectivity for enterprise discovery layers.

• Excellent communication skills with the capability to coach and guide staff remotely in real-time.

• Comfortable using MS Teams or similar screen-sharing platforms.
