This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• The Investment Strategy Intern collaborates with the CEO to develop and enhance xPL's criteria for venture selection, capital structure decisions, and strategies aimed at investors.
• You will engage at the crossroads of venture studio economics, market analysis, and capital markets, conducting analyses that directly influence decisions regarding new venture launches and fundraising frameworks.
• Conduct research and evaluate candidate industries and verticals based on xPL's criteria for studio compatibility (fragmentation, regulatory complexity, moat depth, buyer concentration).
• Create and sustain venture screening models that encompass market sizing, competitive landscape assessments, and unit economics benchmarks.
• Assist in the design and refinement of capital structures at the studio level, which includes equity retention models, carry pool mechanics, and fund structuring logic.
• Help prepare materials for investors, including fundraising presentations, capital layer documentation, and return scenario models (conservative, base, optimistic cases).
• Monitor and compile data comparable to venture studio peers, fund-of-funds structures, and pertinent public benchmarks.
• Ensure source discipline for all figures utilized in strategic work: every number must be attributed by origin (confirmed input, industry-standard benchmark, or external reference data), and unsourced figures should be highlighted rather than assumed.
• Write internal memos and decision briefs that identify open strategic inquiries needing the CEO or Investment Committee's input, rather than resolving uncertainties through assumption.
• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in finance, economics, business, or a similar quantitative discipline.
• Proficient analytical and financial modeling abilities (Excel/Google Sheets required; familiarity with cap tables, waterfall models, or fund structures is advantageous).
• A proven interest in venture capital, private equity, or venture studio models, demonstrated through coursework, prior internships, or independent research.
• Exceptional written communication skills; capable of producing accurate, well-sourced analyses without embellishment.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and providing structure to open-ended strategic inquiries.
• Strong attention to detail and intellectual integrity: willing to highlight inconsistencies or gaps in analysis instead of overlooking them.
• Gain direct, ongoing exposure to CEO-level strategic and investment decision-making within an operational venture studio.
• Acquire practical experience with the entire venture studio capital stack, from operating-layer validation vehicles to institutional fund structures.
• Exposure to authentic fundraising materials and investor relations processes at the SFO/institutional level.
• Receive mentorship from a CEO who values rigor, direct communication, and independent judgment, rather than mere agreement.
• This is an unpaid, non-credit internship opportunity.
