This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +32 more states.
• Conduct research, interpret, and apply coding, payer, and regulatory requirements to ensure precise and compliant Professional and Hospital coding practices.
• Create, maintain, and revise coding guidance, standard operating procedures, reference materials, and position statements to guarantee consistency across the enterprise.
• Organize and facilitate coding quality audits by managing requests, keeping records, and verifying the completeness and accuracy of documentation.
• Monitor audit findings, quality issues, and compliance risks, documenting trends and aiding in the implementation of corrective actions.
• Examine coding quality data and audit results to uncover trends, risks, and areas for improvement.
• Compile summaries, reports, and materials for leadership, audit assessments, and quality enhancement initiatives.
• Collaborate with Integrity Operations, coding leadership, clinicians, and educational teams to enhance documentation quality and coding precision.
• Assist with regulatory, compliance, and quality-related projects, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and AHIMA coding standards.
• Address internal inquiries regarding coding guidance, quality findings, and audit results.
• Aid in testing, reporting validation, and workflow modifications related to coding quality, guidance, and compliance initiatives.
• An Associate degree or equivalent education and experience is required.
• Certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in expert-level professional coding or hospital-based coding, along with knowledge of revenue cycle processes, health information workflows, and medical record auditing.
• Proficient understanding of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Strong capability to identify coding quality issues and provide actionable recommendations for improvement.
• Advanced skills in analyzing trends and data, presenting them in a statistical reporting format.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proven ability to effectively train others through oral and written communication.
• Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and reading comprehension skills.
• Strong analytical abilities with a keen attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, video and web conferencing tools, email, and experience with electronic coding and EHR systems or applications.
• Comprehensive knowledge of care delivery documentation systems and associated medical record documents.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written, essential for collaboration with Physicians, other clinicians, and members of the Professional Coding Department and leadership.
• Ability to work autonomously and exercise independent judgment and decision-making.
• Experience in remote workforce operations is required.
