This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Examine intricate inpatient medical records and accurately assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes.
• Guarantee precise MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignments by utilizing Official Coding Guidelines and Coding Clinic guidance.
• Document Present on Admission (POA) indicators and recognize secondary diagnoses that affect Severity of Illness (SOI), Risk of Mortality (ROM), Hospital Acquired Conditions (HACs), HCCs, Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), quality metrics, and reimbursement.
• Recognize qualifying procedures and technologies, including New Technology Add-On Payments (NTAP), to ensure comprehensive reimbursement.
• Verify discharge disposition documentation for coding precision.
• Maintain outstanding coding quality while achieving productivity goals.
• Keep abreast of ICD-10 updates, Coding Clinic publications, Official Coding Guidelines, payer specifications, and industry best practices.
• Adhere to AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism.
• Collaborate efficiently with internal coding leadership and quality review teams.
• AHIMA credential (CCS, RHIA, or RHIT).
• At least 3 years of recent acute inpatient hospital coding experience.
• Experience in coding at a large acute care hospital.
• Proficiency in assigning ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes.
• Strong knowledge of MS-DRGs, APR-DRGs, POA indicators, Official Coding Guidelines, and Coding Clinic.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records systems such as Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar.
• Experience with 3M, TruCode, or similar encoder software.
• Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
• Capability to work independently in a fully remote setting.
