This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Supervise and provide support for the firm's settlement function across all practice areas, acting as a centralized legal resource for matters related to settlements.
• Lead, mentor, and manage the settlement team, comprising attorneys, paralegals, and support staff, while facilitating the establishment of clear workflows, roles, and best practices.
• Standardize settlement procedures across the firm, including documentation, timelines, approval processes, and communication protocols with clients.
• Draft, review, and authorize settlement agreements, releases, court filings, and related documentation to ensure precision, uniformity, and adherence to applicable laws and firm standards.
• Collaborate closely with the Settlement Accounting team regarding client trust accounts, IOLTA accounts, settlement funds, disbursements, liens, and distribution protocols.
• Ensure compliance with state-specific regulations, court rules, and ethical responsibilities pertaining to settlement funds, client trust accounting, and professional conduct.
• Oversee the execution of settlement terms, including deadlines, necessary approvals, and the fulfillment of contractual and court-mandated obligations.
• Act as a resource for attorneys and partners throughout the firm, offering guidance on settlement strategies, procedures, and risk management.
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients about settlement processes, timelines, and subsequent steps, as required.
• Work in conjunction with firm leadership to identify areas for process enhancement, increased efficiency, and the integration of legal technologies to bolster settlement operations.
• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Valid license to practice law in California.
• Over 7 years of litigation experience, with substantial exposure to settlement processes and post-resolution issues.
• Experience in overseeing or advising on settlement administration, trust accounting, or client fund compliance is highly preferred.
• Preferred experience in management or team leadership.
• Strong understanding of professional responsibility rules related to client funds, trust accounts, and settlements.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe; familiar with legal tools and systems such as ShareFile, PACER, Filevine, Everlaw, Smart Advocate, Lexis, and similar platforms.
• Highly detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple complex matters under tight deadlines.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal and procedural matters clearly to both internal teams and clients.
