
Hospital Coder – Inpatient

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Dakota.
• Evaluate inpatient clinical documentation, procedural details, and diagnostic outcomes
• Precisely assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes within the inpatient electronic medical record
• Implement Official Coding Guidelines, CMS regulations/guidelines, and ICD-10 coding standards
• Uphold organizational quality and productivity benchmarks
• Remain updated on coding principles, governmental regulations, official guidelines, and third-party payer criteria
• Utilize knowledge of MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs
• Collaborate with providers, clinical documentation improvement teams, and quality departments
• Employ various software solutions in daily operations
• Associate degree in Health Information Technology (or eligibility) or a bachelor's degree in Health Information Management required
• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification is mandatory
• New graduates eligible for certification must pass the certification examination at the earliest testing dates after employment
• Prior hospital coding experience is highly preferred
• Previous experience with computer and/or encoder software is advantageous
• Strong understanding of MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs
• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding
• Knowledge of Official Coding Guidelines, CMS regulations/guidelines, and third-party payer requirements
• Capability to maintain organizational quality and productivity standards
