This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Responsible for the development of high-speed and filtered connectors and contacts from the initial concept through to production, adhering to a Stage Gate process.
• Create 3D models and 2D schematics of high-speed and filtered connectors and contacts, ensuring they meet electrical, mechanical, and environmental specifications.
• Define signal integrity design performance and functional requirements for new product developments.
• Design PCBs and test adapters as necessary for the evaluation and validation of connector signal integrity.
• Prepare and issue manufacturing assembly documentation and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Initiate and assist with drawing modifications (ECNs, impact assessments, material dispositions).
• Provide support to production concerning manufacturing, supplier, and quality issues that impact fiber optic interconnect products.
• Estimate labor and material costs for new high-speed and filtered connectors and contacts.
• Identify non-recurring engineering (NRE) and equipment requirements.
• Develop qualification test plans that satisfy customer or industry performance standards.
• Assist procurement with alternative component selections and sourcing options.
• Collaborate directly with customer technical teams to clarify design specifications.
• Conduct tolerance analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on mating designs.
• Carry out contract reviews for new revisions to customer specifications.
• Manage engineering product setup, design, and lifecycle processes.
• Create and update engineering BOMs and documentation.
• Serve as a multi-functional team member representing Product Engineering.
• Provide support for product testing and qualification within the Product Evaluation Lab.
• Execute other tasks as assigned by Engineering Management.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in Mil/Aero high-speed and/or filter connector design.
• Proven experience in creating Mil/Aero high-speed connector and contact component and assembly drawings and documentation.
• Familiarity with industry-standard communication protocols, including 10/100/1G/10G BASE-T Ethernet, Single Pair Ethernet, analog/digital video, 1553 databus, USB, Display Port, HDMI, SATA, and experience designing Mil/Aero connectors that comply with these protocols.
• Proficient in using 3D CAD software such as Creo, Solidworks, NX, or equivalent.
• Skilled in utilizing high-speed performance testing equipment (e.g., network analyzer, Fluke DSX).
• Understanding of contact technologies and contact physics principles.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate simulation and lab data, identify issues, and propose solutions.
• Experience in designing both cable-side and PCB connectors.
• Knowledge of design considerations for harsh environments.
• Understanding of electromagnetic theory and electrical circuit behavior.
• Familiarity with properties of metals: conductivity, corrosion resistance, machining techniques, and plating options.
• Competence in ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing, including GD&T.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively to achieve results.
• Highly self-motivated with a desire to make an impact and learn.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across various departments.
• Proficient in MS Office applications, including Excel and Word.
• Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 10%).
