Health Information Specialist I – Temporary Role

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Carolina.

📋 Description

• Accurately and efficiently process the release of information, particularly medical record requests.

• Receive and handle patient health information requests in accordance with company and facility policies.

• Ensure confidentiality, security, and HIPAA compliance for sensitive patient information.

• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of company and facility software.

• Communicate any work-related issues, site challenges, and variations in workload to the manager.

• Manage and protect patient health records diligently.

• Prepare new patient charts utilizing both paper documents and electronic health records.

• Assemble medical records in a standardized order while ensuring their accuracy and completeness.

• Create digital images of documents for electronic medical records storage.

• Retrieve and properly transmit patient records to both internal and external requestors.

• Handle inbound and outbound calls, providing updates on medical record status.

• Assist patients who walk in when necessary.

• Support with faxes, mail sorting, data entry, and various administrative tasks.

• Schedule pickups as required.

• Meet site productivity standards while performing other assigned responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

• Must be able to commute between locations as necessary.

• Willingness to work overtime during busy periods when needed.

• Basic proficiency in computer skills is essential.

• Competence with phones, fax machines, printers, and other standard office equipment is required.

• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English are necessary.

• Strong skills in data entry.

• A detail-oriented and quality-focused approach to maintaining accurate and compliant medical records.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and adapt to shifting priorities.

• Strong organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.

• Capability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

• Experience in a healthcare setting is advantageous.

• Previous experience in production or metric-based roles is a plus.

• In-person customer service experience is also beneficial.
