This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Leads and provides expertise in creating a comprehensive workplace health and safety program tailored for community physicians, encompassing OHS Regulations, best practices, policies, and services.

• Ensures effective planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing enhancement of comprehensive health and safety management systems.

• Assists community clinics in managing workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses; identifies underlying causes and formulates corrective action plans to avert future incidents.

• Advocates for a systems-based approach to foster a culture of health and safety that surpasses mere regulatory compliance.

• Designs and/or recommends tools and mechanisms to assess, track, and evaluate progress and educational outcomes; offers support to those with operational responsibilities in the design and/or redesign of processes, systems, and tools.

• Develops and reports on metrics related to health, safety, and prevention programming for community physicians, oversight groups, and external partners.

• Monitors performance indicators from various safety and prevention programs and provides recommendations for remedial actions to minimize risks.

• Supervises regulatory compliance activities of community physicians, including investigations and responses to WorkSafeBC and other regulatory agencies concerning orders and reports.

• Engages with senior leaders to ensure operational plans align with workplace strategic priorities and are consistent with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of SWITCH BC.

• Remains updated on provincial health and safety legislation and regulatory modifications (e.g., WorkSafeBC); identifies the need for updates to policies and procedures concerning community physicians.

• Offers consultation, both remotely and in-person, to community clinics deemed high risk or in need of assistance.

• Represents the organization at external forums and committees associated with workplace health and safety, fostering relationships with industry peers and regulatory bodies.

• Actively participates in change initiatives at SWITCH BC and within community physician offices by providing information, training on the CPHS web portal, feedback, and suggestions for enhancing work and team processes.

• Executes additional related duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in occupational health or a relevant healthcare discipline, coupled with five (5) years of recent experience in developing and implementing occupational health and safety policies, strategies, change management, and quality improvement.

• Preference will be given to candidates holding Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) certifications.

• Experience in occupational health across multiple industries is advantageous.

• A comprehensive understanding of the BC health system, particularly concerning community physicians, occupational health, safety, and wellbeing within this framework.

• Familiarity with Canadian Safety Association (CSA) Standards for Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems and Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.

• Demonstrated commitment to change management, quality improvement, and excellence.

• Ability to analyze complex issues and provide recommendations through facilitation and consensus-building.

• Clinical thinking and analytical capabilities, including statistical analysis and evaluation methodologies.

• Proficient in applying conflict management skills and judgement to facilitate consensus, effectively persuade, and implement service changes and transitions.
