Head – Product Control, Accounting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nigeria.

📋 Description

• Serve as the primary technical accounting advisor to the Product and Engineering teams for all new product launches, features, and pricing modifications.

• Draft technical accounting memorandums and position papers for newly introduced or modified products, including revenue recognition under IFRS 15 and financial instrument classification under IFRS 9, as well as the treatment of fee versus interest income.

• Develop, construct, and sustain the chart of accounts for both new and existing products, ensuring uniformity across various entities.

• Align each phase of the customer journey (onboarding, transaction, settlement, fee, reversal, write-off) with the appropriate general ledger treatment throughout the entire process.

• Evaluate product and engineering specifications prior to launch to identify accounting and control deficiencies before they are implemented.

• Oversee the reconciliation between product/transaction system data and the general ledger, addressing discrepancies at their source.

• Establish controls for new product workflows (maker-checker, reconciliation, exception management) and document them to meet audit standards.

• Maintain an up-to-date library of accounting treatment documentation for each product, ensuring it reflects current practices as products develop.

• Collaborate with Financial Control, Internal Audit, and external auditors on technical accounting inquiries related to products.

⛳️ Requirements

• ACA / ACCA (or equivalent) with over 8 years of post-qualification experience, including a background in Big 4 technical accounting or auditing.

• In-depth understanding of IFRS 15 (revenue), IFRS 9 (financial instruments), and IFRS standards more generally.

• Proven experience in converting product or system designs into accounting treatments and general ledger structures, rather than just reviewing them post-implementation.

• Proficient in reading product specifications and engaging directly with engineers and product managers, in addition to finance colleagues.
