Head of Technology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee Tallo’s engineering and technology division, nurturing and enhancing the current team.

• Manage engineering managers who supervise software engineering and quality assurance teams.

• Establish the technical vision for Tallo’s career platform and collaborate with Product, Data, Marketing, Operations, and company leadership.

• Take ownership of the organizational structure and overall health of the engineering division.

• Supervise technical architecture, product roadmap execution, and the long-term development of the platform.

• Cultivate an engineering culture, design team frameworks, establish leveling structures, development pathways, and performance benchmarks.

• Recruit, onboard, mentor, and advance engineering managers and technical leaders.

• Enhance sprint cadence, standards for code reviews, release processes, quality assurance, and agile methodologies.

• Direct platform and enablement priorities, including shared components, technical debt, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and infrastructure.

• Establish and adapt secure, efficient, scalable, and robust technical frameworks and standards.

• Manage technology safety, security, compliance, and maintain the relationship with the parent company, Stride.

• Collaborate with data and data science teams on data architecture, analytics, methodologies, prioritization, and data quality.

• Work with Marketing on SEO, organic search optimization, and platform performance initiatives.

• Collaborate with Product on roadmap priorities, sequencing, capacity planning, trade-offs, and delivery obstacles.

• Assess and suggest AI/ML use cases, tools, infrastructure, experimentation, and evaluation strategies.

• Report to the CEO and work closely with the Principal PM, Marketing, Data, and Stride leadership.

• Convey technical concepts, progress updates, risks, capacity, and investment trade-offs to executive stakeholders.

• Establish and monitor engineering metrics related to throughput, quality, reliability, and team well-being.

• Directly supervise engineering managers and senior individual contributors.

• Conduct interviews, hire, train, assign, evaluate, reward, discipline, and support team members.

• Extensive experience in software engineering and senior leadership within multi-team organizations.

• Exceptional talent acquisition skills, including the ability to attract and secure top engineers and engineering leaders.

• Proven track record in leading engineering managers and constructing team frameworks, leveling structures, and operational models.

• History of identifying and empowering strong technical leaders.

• Demonstrated success in building and scaling engineering organizations in fast-paced growth settings.

• Strong expertise in modern cloud-based architectures, DevOps practices, and distributed systems.

• Experience delivering customer-facing product features, including data-driven or AI-enabled functionalities, into production.

• Background in owning quality assurance and reliability standards and practices.

• Experience in building secure systems and fulfilling compliance requirements, ideally for sensitive or younger user demographics.

• Experience collaborating with data and data science teams, including data architecture and analytics.

• Excellent leadership skills, including mentoring managers, fostering performance-driven cultures, and developing technical leaders.

• Strong strategic thinking combined with a hands-on approach to execution.

• Comfortable engaging directly with the team rather than managing from a distance.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at the executive level.

• Capability to pass required background checks.
