Head of Survey Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Supervise active survey operations conducted by Bedrock-trained contractor teams throughout the UK

• Act as the main escalation contact during ongoing operations, aiding in go/no-go and abort/continue decisions

• Resolve equipment and mission-related issues in collaboration with contractor crews

• Occasionally execute equipment load-out, mission planning, deck operations, and demobilization as necessary

• Assist in the delivery of contractor training and certification programs

• Evaluate trainee preparedness and reinforce course content with practical field experience

• Facilitate the onboarding of newly certified contractor teams and confirm their readiness for field operations

• Support logistics including equipment movement, customs and carnets, vessel arrangements, spares, and operations for UK and European projects

• Conduct routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor fabrication or repair work on survey equipment

• Provide updates on the status of ongoing UK projects to the broader Operations team and clients

• Keep comprehensive daily activity logs for crews under supervision

• Contribute insights from field issues, near-misses, and lessons learned to enhance operations and training methodologies

• Foster continuous improvement in safety and quality management practices across UK operations

• Travel within the UK and occasionally to other locations in Europe for project work, training, and mobilizations

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience operating marine technologies associated with Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), preferably with at-sea commercial experience beyond private vessel operation

• Background in leading, training, or supervising field crews or technicians in maritime or offshore settings

• Capability to instruct or mentor others

• Experience with hands-on survey work and remote oversight of teams

• Familiarity with maritime contractors or vendors, ideally within the UK and/or European markets

• Proficiency in troubleshooting marine survey equipment, including remotely guiding teams through repairs

• Excellent communication skills

• Ability to evaluate crew performance and job readiness against established standards

• Located in, or willing to relocate to, the United Kingdom

• Authorized to work in the United Kingdom without the need for a visa or work permit

• Willingness to travel frequently for survey operations, including overnight stays away from home

• Capable of developing and implementing processes from scratch

• Skilled in making decisions in challenging situations and evaluating time-sensitive trade-offs

• Ability to stand for extended periods on a vessel, sit at a desk, and work on a computer

• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions on a vessel

• Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds at times

• Eligible to obtain and maintain the medical fitness certification required for UK offshore survey work, typically an ENG1 seafarer medical certificate or equivalent

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, with travel commitments up to 80%
