This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Take ownership of and enhance the internal HR function for a growing remote workforce.
• Direct the implementation and daily adoption of performance management processes, review cycles, accountability for managers, and effective follow-through.
• Assist directors and managers with employee relations matters, challenging discussions, documentation, and practical HR advice.
• Oversee multi-state HR compliance, which includes updating handbooks, managing state addenda, coordinating workers' compensation, handling state-specific requirements, and addressing payroll or business registration transitions, as well as termination and final paycheck considerations.
• Collaborate with leadership, finance, and benefits partners on open enrollment, benefits administration, broker coordination, and communication of employee-facing benefits.
• Aid in the evaluation and implementation of a more integrated payroll/HRIS system as the company expands beyond its current framework.
• Establish organization within onboarding, offboarding, employee lifecycle processes, HR documentation, and replicable operating practices.
• Contribute to HR initiatives related to growth and future M&A integration activities.
• Provide practical guidance to junior HR support while maintaining a readiness to engage directly in tasks.
• Apply a talent-focused perspective to the organization, emphasizing the connections between hiring, onboarding, performance, retention, and manager enablement.
• Proven experience as an HR generalist, HRBP, Senior HR Manager, HR Director, or similar internal HR leadership role.
• Hands-on experience in supporting a multi-state U.S. workforce.
• Solid understanding of employee relations, performance management, HR compliance, onboarding, offboarding, employee handbooks, and managerial guidance.
• Experience functioning as both a strategic partner and a hands-on executor.
• Ability to introduce structure to an HR function that is still under development.
• Professional demeanor, discretion, and confidence in managing sensitive conversations with employees and managers.
• Familiarity with benefits, open enrollment, brokers, workers' compensation, HRIS tools, payroll transitions, or related employee operations.
• Nice to have experience in a high-growth, private equity-backed, acquisitive, professional services, technology-enabled services, consulting, or similar white-collar people-oriented business.
• Experience in selecting, implementing, or enhancing an HRIS, payroll, or benefits platform.
• Background in supporting HR activities related to acquisitions, integrations, or newly scaled teams.
• Experience supervising junior HR support or informal HR resources.
• Proven experience collaborating with finance or C-suite leaders on HR priorities, benefits, and operational cadence.
• Experience in talent operations or oversight of recruiting processes is beneficial, but this role primarily focuses on internal HR leadership rather than talent acquisition.
