Head of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead WellTheory’s inaugural engineering function, establishing engineering processes, quality benchmarks, technical guidance, and recruitment strategies.

• Develop and expand the engineering team through one-on-one meetings, hiring initiatives, performance management, and career advancement.

• Design and implement practices for planning, code review, testing, releases, and incident management.

• Collaborate with the founding engineer to set the foundational architecture direction.

• Take ownership of the platform and DevOps roadmap, ensuring non-production environments protect PHI during daily development.

• Work alongside operations and compliance leaders to address HIPAA, SOC 2, and HITRUST engineering requirements.

• Introduce coding agents, evaluations, and internal tools to enhance engineering efficiency.

• Conduct code reviews, collaborate on challenging problems, and directly contribute to production code.

• Collaborate with product and design teams on roadmap scope and trade-offs.

• Represent the engineering team at the leadership level.

• Report directly to the Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer.

• Develop the member app, Care Team tools, and the insurance and data infrastructure that connects employers, health plans, and channel partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Valid work authorization in the United States.

• Proven experience in leading engineering teams through periods of growth.

• Demonstrated experience in managing senior individual contributors, team building, hiring, performance management, and career progression.

• Experience in developing within regulated environments such as healthcare or fintech.

• Recent experience in production using TypeScript or JavaScript.

• Accountability for reliability, observability, environments, and incident response.

• Familiarity with utilizing AI to enhance engineering team productivity.

• Experience collaborating closely with product and design on roadmap creation.

• Strong written communication and documentation skills in a fully remote setting.

• Access to protected health information is mandatory.

• Bonus: Experience in digital health or B2B2C healthcare, including knowledge of eligibility, claims, or care delivery tools.

• Bonus: Experience leading SOC 2 or HITRUST initiatives from an engineering perspective.
