Head of Engineering

📋 Description

• Lead and enhance engineering practices at Peek, ensuring the development of scalable, reliable, and impactful technology that promotes global access to eye care.

• Collaborate at the crossroads of product, design, and engineering—working closely with product leadership to guarantee that we are creating the right solutions in an efficient manner.

• Oversee a growing engineering team of 7, with plans to expand to approximately 10 by the end of 2026, operating across four squads.

• Accountable for the overall well-being of our engineering system, encompassing architecture, technical quality, developer experience, delivery efficiency, and team capability.

• Serve as both a strategic leader and a hands-on technical mentor—guiding the direction while empowering teams to work independently.

• Define and advance the technical strategy of our platform, ensuring it remains scalable, secure, and suitable for diverse global contexts.

• Collaborate to design and continuously enhance how engineering, product, and design work together—including decision-making, trade-offs, and shared ownership throughout the product lifecycle.

• Expand the engineering function by outlining role profiles, career pathways, and hiring strategies aligned with our roadmap.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams within a product-focused environment, preferably in a small to mid-sized organization (approximately 10-50 engineers).

• Solid technical foundation with the capability to guide architecture and engage across backend, frontend, DevOps, and data systems.

• Experience in establishing and refining engineering practices (e.g., CI/CD, testing, observability, infrastructure-as-code).

• Proven ability to balance delivery speed with long-term system health through pragmatic decision-making.

• History of building and nurturing high-performing teams, promoting ownership, accountability, and continuous growth.

• Strong product orientation, with experience in closely partnering with product and design to address significant user challenges.

• Systems thinker, capable of enhancing the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle, with experience in operating and scaling production systems in real-world settings.
