Head of Credit Risk

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the comprehensive development of the credit risk framework for all credit products, encompassing eligibility, underwriting, scoring models, limit setting, risk appetite, monitoring, and reporting.

• Collaborate with external vendors, as needed, to enhance capabilities in credit risk detection.

• Develop the methodology and work closely with Machine Learning Engineers to create and continually refine Finom’s Credit Risk Engine.

• Work in close partnership with Heads of Product and Engineering to integrate risk considerations into product design and strategy from the outset.

• Design the data strategy, which includes decisioning tools, transactional data, multi-country bureau landscape, behavioral data, accounting software, government registry data, and first-party transactional signals related to Finom’s accounts.

• Provide guidance to the ML & DS team in the construction, validation, and iteration of credit scoring and associated risk models.

• Build and maintain the portfolio monitoring stack.

• Design, establish, and calibrate early warning indicators and the credit monitoring system.

• Function as a strong Second Line of Defence (2LoD), ensuring effective origination, monitoring, and collections processes.

• Take ownership of and continuously enhance credit risk policies, risk appetite frameworks, and reporting mechanisms.

• Ensure compliance with EMI / PS4 regulatory requirements and the evolving standards within Europe.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7-10+ years of experience in credit risk, with practical expertise in SME lending and credit cards, including associated credit and fraud risks.

• Significant experience with automated underwriting and risk models in fintech or digital banking settings.

• A STEM/quantitative degree in fields such as physics, data science, applied mathematics, statistics, econometrics, or quantitative finance is highly advantageous.

• A solid understanding of risk governance, policies, and process management.

• An AI-native mindset, comfortable using AI tools and agents to enhance productivity and decision-making.

• A unit-economics/product-led growth mindset, focusing on eligibility, conversion, expected losses, cost of risk, false positives as missed revenues, and risk-adjusted margin, rather than just control.

• A critical thinker with a strong sense of ownership, eager to challenge conventional methods.

• Highly collaborative, capable of aligning diverse stakeholders across Product, Legal, Finance, Engineering, and ML/DS.

• Analytical, structured, and pragmatic, able to merge intricate details with overarching concepts.
