This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Act as Step’s compliance authority and subject matter expert regarding essential banking and financial services regulations, which include BSA/AML, KYC, UDAAP, Reg E, Reg Z, EFTA, GLBA, FCRA, and CFPB guidance.
• Take ownership of and propel the compliance strategy for products, partnerships, and operational activities.
• Create, refine, and implement policies and procedures for a risk-based, scalable compliance framework.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Risk, Customer Experience, Marketing, Legal, and partner banks to ensure compliant product development and delivery.
• Supervise internal reviews, audits, testing, training, and continuous monitoring efforts.
• Lead issue tracking, regulatory examinations, complaint management, and reporting activities.
• Assess regulatory changes and convert them into actionable plans and guidance.
• Act as the main compliance liaison with regulators, partner banks, auditors, and key stakeholders.
• Report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
• Over 10 years of experience in compliance or legal roles within fintech, banking, and/or payments sectors.
• Ideally, experience spanning both startup and regulated environments.
• Profound understanding of U.S. consumer financial services regulations.
• In-depth knowledge of deposit, payments, and lending frameworks.
• Familiarity with sponsor banks or Banking as a Service (BaaS) partnerships.
• Strong grasp of shared compliance models.
• Capable of drafting policies, addressing regulators, reviewing customer flows, and evaluating vendors.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent blend of education, training, and experience.
