This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Take charge of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, which include journal entries, reconciliations, preparation of financial statements, and management of the close calendar.
• Spearhead the shift towards GAAP-like accrual accounting and enhanced revenue recognition practices.
• Create and formalize accounting policies related to revenue, accruals, prepaid expenses, commissions, software capitalization, and reserves as necessary.
• Collaborate with Finance, Sales, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure that customer contracts are accurately represented in invoicing and accounting practices.
• Establish dependable workflows for accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense reimbursements, and vendor payments, complete with clear controls and approval processes.
• Enhance audit preparedness, assist with tax and compliance initiatives, and coordinate efforts with external accountants, auditors, and advisors.
• Assess and refine systems, including ERP/accounting platforms, spend management tools, and close processes.
• Recruit, mentor, and oversee the growth of the accounting team over time.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably encompassing a blend of public accounting and high-growth SaaS or enterprise software sectors.
• Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, monthly closing procedures, revenue recognition, and internal controls.
• Proven experience in developing or enhancing accounting processes within an organization transitioning from informal to more structured practices.
• Ability to engage directly with finance leadership, founders, and cross-functional business partners.
• Strong systems focus; familiarity with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar ERP tools, along with spend management tools like Ramp, Brex, or Expensify.
• A hands-on approach accompanied by sound judgment and meticulous attention to detail.
• CPA designation is highly preferred.
