Growth Opportunities Mentor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Engage in weekly communication with the mentee via telephone, email, or in-person meetings.

• Show respect for the mentee’s time, opinions, and decision-making, aiming for mutual respect.

• Act as a positive role model by demonstrating desirable behaviors such as patience, tolerance, and reflective listening.

• Establish appropriate boundaries with the mentee and their family comfortably and effectively.

• Provide encouragement and support to the mentee.

• Foster self-esteem and motivation.

• Strengthen the relationship by planning and engaging in activities together.

• Assist the mentee in creating a milestone plan for completing high school and pursuing further education or employment.

• Conduct monthly check-ins with program staff.

• Complete evaluation surveys as requested by the staff.

• Acknowledge the role of a mandated reporter and report any concerning issues.

• Exercise patience and recognize that building the mentoring relationship is a process that requires effort and time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Must reside in the Jefferson County area.

• Should have an interest in working with at-risk youth in the juvenile justice system.

• Must be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures.

• Must complete the application and screening process.

• Should be reliable and consistent in fulfilling time commitments.

• Attend mentor training sessions as required.

• Must be open to regular communication with program staff, submitting activity information, and receiving constructive feedback regarding mentoring activities.

• Must have access to a vehicle, along with auto insurance and a good driving record.

• Must have a clean criminal history.

• No use of illicit drugs.

• No use of alcohol or controlled substances.

• Must not be currently undergoing treatment for substance abuse and have a non-addictive period of at least five years.

• Must not be currently in treatment for a mental health disorder or have been hospitalized for such in the past three years.
