This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of the Vision & Roadmap: Create and sustain a multi-year global product roadmap for consumables that support the Environmental Monitoring portfolio, driven by Voice of Market (VOM), regulatory trends, competitive insights, and financial goals.
• Convey roadmap strategy, focusing on the overall vision rather than just features, to executive, commercial, and R&D audiences.
• Produce Strategic Deliverables: Generate Market Requirements Documents (MRDs), opportunity assessments, and portfolio recommendations, incorporating opportunity sizing, volume and revenue forecasts, margin impacts, necessary investments, and risk evaluations.
• Optimize Portfolio: Spearhead gap analysis, line extensions, rationalization, and end-of-life decisions in partnership with regional and functional stakeholders.
• Plan for the Short- and Long-Term: Create tactical plans for 1–3 years and assist in developing 5–10 year strategic plans in collaboration with the Global Product Manager and Senior Manager of Product Management, ensuring alignment with Hygiena's financial and strategic goals.
• Act as the commercial lead within Hygiena's Product Commercialization and Innovation Process, representing customer and market requirements across all cross-functional project teams from concept to launch.
• Translate Requirements: Draft comprehensive Market Requirements Documents (MRDs) and Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) that convert market challenges into performance claims, validation criteria, and specifications for launch readiness.
• Execute Cross-Functionally: Collaborate with R&D, Program Management, Manufacturing, Applications, Software, Quality, Regulatory, and Finance from concept through development, validation, scale-up, and commercialization.
• Formulate Go-to-Market Strategy: Establish GTM strategy, value proposition, positioning, packaging, and pricing for new products and major releases; ensure launch readiness across all regions and channels using a formal launch checklist and success criteria.
• Uphold Product Stewardship: Serve as Product Steward for the Environmental Monitoring portfolio, managing lifecycle and ensuring product quality, compliance, labeling, and documentation are current throughout the product lifecycle.
• Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement cost optimization, reformulation, and continuous improvement initiatives while safeguarding product performance and customer value.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain: Work with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Customer Service to manage product changes, advisory notices, allocations, and obsolescence decisions with a customer-centric approach.
• Conduct Portfolio Reviews: Lead structured quarterly reviews of the portfolio, analyzing performance against KPIs, pipeline status, rationalization candidates, and investment trade-off recommendations.
• Develop Enablement Tools: Create and maintain a suite of sales enablement resources, including presentations, competitor battlecards, objection-handling guides, ROI calculators, application notes, and digital content tailored to priority buyer personas and regions.
• Provide Sales Training: Train and certify global sales, technical sales, distributors, and customer-facing teams on the portfolio's value proposition, key differentiators, and competitive response strategies, while maintaining a dynamic training curriculum.
• Engage with Customers: Assist with significant customer interactions, demonstrations, evaluations, and contract negotiations as the commercial and product subject-matter expert (SME).
• Collaborate on Campaigns: Partner with Marketing to design, execute, and evaluate demand generation campaigns and programs that promote awareness, trial, adoption, and market share growth in targeted segments. Utilize CRM data to monitor lead-to-close effectiveness.
• Develop Buyer Personas: Construct and maintain structured profiles of buyers and users (e.g., QA managers, lab directors, grain and feed operators, regulatory auditors) employing jobs-to-be-done (JTBD) methodology, documenting workflows and purchasing criteria.
• Execute Voice of Market (VOM) Activities: Organize and conduct ongoing VOM initiatives, including customer interviews, field visits, surveys, advisory panels, and participation in industry conferences to discover, validate, and prioritize unmet market needs prior to product decisions.
• Maintain Market Models: Keep quantified market models for priority segments, covering TAM/SAM/SOM sizing, growth rates, share estimates, pricing corridors, and competitive landscapes.
• Monitor Regulations: Track global regulations affecting environmental testing (e.g., FSMA, FALCPA, EU FIR 1169/2011, Codex Alimentarius, USDA/FDA guidance) and convert regulatory changes into actionable product and portfolio requirements.
• Manage Competitive Intelligence: Oversee the structured competitive intelligence process for the Environmental Monitoring portfolio, maintaining current win/loss analyses, competitor offering profiles, claims, pricing, and positioning via standardized tools accessible to the sales team.
• Oversee Battlecard Management: Establish and manage a dynamic battlecard system that allows sales teams to access and contribute competitive insights; conduct quarterly win/loss reviews to guide strategy.
• Formulate Pricing Strategy: Determine global list pricing, discount frameworks, and regional pricing corridors in collaboration with Sales, Finance, and regional teams to achieve growth and margin objectives. Apply value-based pricing principles aligned with quantified customer outcomes.
• Support Promotional & Contract Structures: Assist in pricing strategy decisions, including promotional constructs and contract structures for key accounts and strategic partners.
• Own KPI Tracking: Define, monitor, and report on portfolio KPIs such as revenue, gross margin, ASP trends, new product adoption rate, forecast accuracy, on-time-to-launch, market share, and customer NPS. Utilize CRM, ERP, and market data to analyze performance drivers.
• Make Data-Driven Decisions: Leverage data from CRM (e.g., Salesforce), ERP, and third-party market sources to identify performance drivers, risks, and opportunities, and prioritize actions with measurable business impact.
• Communicate with Executives: Prepare and deliver clear, data-driven portfolio reviews, business cases, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders; tailor communication style and depth to suit the audience.
• Ensure Compliance & Ethics: Adhere to all organizational systems, programs, policies, and relevant legal and regulatory mandates. Carry out all responsibilities with integrity, transparency, and professionalism.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field is required.
• An MBA is preferred.
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required, including:
• At least 2 years of commercial experience in product management, strategic product marketing, or project management of food safety tests in a B2B environment, demonstrating a strong track record of achievement.
• A minimum of 2 years contributing to food safety strategy and execution or leading a food testing lab.
• Proven success built on market/customer-focused knowledge, as well as marketing concepts and practices.
• Demonstrated experience in Product Development and Launch from ideation through commercialization, including product rationalization.
• Strong networking abilities.
• Proven success in working, leading, and influencing within a global matrix environment and across cross-functional teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat is required.
• Experience with PowerBI is a plus.
