This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +4 more states.
• Spearhead a global strategy that promotes Indigenous and community leadership within TNC’s conservation initiatives.
• Guide the implementation of TNC’s 2030 objectives through fair, sustainable, and community-driven results.
• Shape systems, financing, partnerships, governance, and high-level decision-making processes.
• Direct and enhance TNC’s global strategy for Indigenous and Community Leadership in Conservation.
• Convert vision into practical frameworks, priorities, partnerships, investments, evaluations, and adaptive management.
• Incorporate Indigenous and community leadership into conservation, climate, and policy programs.
• Integrate Indigenous and community leadership into program strategies, funding mechanisms, financial structures, governance, and collaborations.
• Lead and oversee a diverse, global team of approximately six staff members.
• Foster an inclusive, high-performing culture and create a succession plan.
• Participate in the Conservation Leadership Team and Equitable Conservation Leadership Team.
• Serve as a global thought leader and primary representative for Indigenous- and community-led conservation efforts.
• Cultivate partnerships with Indigenous leaders, community organizations, global NGOs, multilateral entities, and funding bodies.
• Represent TNC in international forums and shape the conservation and climate sectors.
• Promote fundraising and donor engagement strategies.
• Align resources and investments with global ICLC priorities.
• Ensure effective program execution and measurable conservation results.
• Collaborate across Equitable Conservation and TNC functions, including Global Protect, Provide, Climate, Science, Policy and Public Funding, and Impact Finance and Markets.
• Lead organization-wide initiatives and cross-boundary collaborations.
• Ensure alignment of global strategy with regional implementations.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least 7 years of experience in leadership roles within conservation, the non-profit sector, advocacy, or related for-profit fields.
• Significant portion of experience acquired outside the U.S., particularly in the global south.
• Proven dedication to fostering and practicing global literacy.
• Management experience overseeing and leading a global, multidisciplinary team.
• Experience collaborating with or serving as a partner to global, matrixed organizations.
• Proficiency in written and verbal English is required.
• Experience in people management through direct or project supervision.
• Strong executive decision-making capabilities and a strategy-focused mindset.
• Proven experience in communicating with and presenting to donors, board members, employees, and external stakeholders.
• Preferred: Master’s degree and a minimum of 10+ years of experience as a recognized leader in conservation, advocacy, Indigenous and tribal governance, or a related field.
• Extensive professional or lived experience in Indigenous rights, community leadership, governance, and/or equitable conservation.
• Significant management experience, including motivating, leading, setting goals, and managing the performance of large multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated capability to influence organizational strategy and systems.
• Experience in fundraising and budget management.
• Proven skills in budgeting, staffing, and performance management.
• Strong technical skills, analytical capacity, sound judgment, and a focus on operational excellence.
• Demonstrated operational, implementation, and detail-oriented mindset.
• Ability to work efficiently in a decentralized and geographically dispersed organization.
