Global Account Director – Payment Partnerships

Posted Jul 18

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and expand a $100M ARR strategic partnership, achieving at least 30% year-over-year growth through diligent pipeline development, commercial growth, and collaborative go-to-market strategies.

• Create, uphold, and implement a dynamic multi-year strategic partnership plan that aligns WooCommerce's roadmap and capabilities with the partner's commercial goals and market positioning.

• Identify, evaluate, and secure expansion opportunities—including new geographic markets, product lines, merchant segments, and revenue-share models—that generate mutual benefits.

• Establish and monitor the commercial KPIs, milestones, and leading indicators that reflect the partnership's health and growth trajectory.

• Cultivate and maintain strong, trustworthy relationships across all levels of the partner organization, from C-suite and VP-level sponsors to operational and technical teams, ensuring alignment, support, and progress at every tier.

• Act as the primary executive liaison for the partner, leading QBRs, annual planning meetings, and resolving escalations with authority and credibility.

• Internally, serve as the sole accountable owner for the partnership, managing a wide array of stakeholders across product, engineering, marketing, legal, finance, and operations to ensure alignment, investment, and commitment to execution.

• Anticipate partner satisfaction, proactively address potential friction points, and resolve issues before they escalate into relationship risks.

• Lead the creation and continuous enhancement of a comprehensive multi-year joint business plan, including growth targets, investment needs, capability milestones, and market expansion priorities.

• Develop and present compelling business cases to senior WooCommerce leadership to secure the necessary resources, budget, and organizational commitment to execute the partnership strategy.

• Convert high-level strategic objectives into phased, actionable execution plans, balancing ambition with operational feasibility, while managing progress meticulously.

• Foster accountability among internal teams through clear ownership assignments, milestone tracking, and regular executive reporting.

• Establish structured frameworks for ongoing partner evaluations using competitive analyses, industry benchmarks, and financial modeling—ensuring the partnership remains superior compared to market alternatives.

• Maintain a deep and current understanding of the global payments ecosystem—including acquiring, PSPs, alternative payment methods, payment network regulations, interchange economics, and bank transfer cost structures—and leverage this knowledge to refine partnership strategy and commercial positioning.

• Continuously monitor the market for emerging payment technologies, capabilities, and competitive dynamics that could enhance WooCommerce’s merchant value proposition, reduce underlying costs, or create new revenue opportunities through this partnership.

• Leverage technical expertise in payment capabilities to evaluate integration feasibility, validate business cases, and ensure that commercial terms are based on a clear understanding of product and operational realities.

• Translate payment capability gaps and merchant needs into specific partnership priorities, closely collaborating with product and engineering teams to align partner roadmap commitments with WooCommerce’s strategic direction.

• Drive global partnership growth by identifying and activating opportunities across different regions while adapting strategies to local market dynamics, all within a coherent global framework.

• Work alongside marketing, product, and sales teams to design and implement joint go-to-market initiatives, including co-selling, co-marketing, merchant acquisition programs, and partner-led revenue acceleration.

• Advocate for WooCommerce's strategic interests in commercial negotiations, contract renewals, and partnership expansions, crafting innovative commercial structures that optimize both strategic flexibility and economic benefits.

• Develop and maintain robust reporting mechanisms to monitor partnership performance, commercial results, and strategic milestones—providing consistent, data-driven updates to senior leadership.

• Build scalable processes and frameworks that facilitate efficient collaboration between WooCommerce and the partner across various geographies and functions.

• Rigorously manage contract amendments, commercial reviews, and renegotiations with a strong sense of commercial discipline.

• Excel in ambiguous situations: capable of establishing structure, process, and direction in fast-paced, resource-constrained environments where the path forward is not always clear.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in strategic partnerships, global account management, or commercial leadership within the payments sector.

• Proven success in scaling strategic partnerships at significant levels ($50M+ ARR).

• In-depth understanding of payment economics, including interchange structures, bank transfer expenses, payment network regulations, and the pricing and cost dynamics that influence partner and merchant outcomes.

• Strong technical fluency in payment capabilities: capable of assessing integration feasibility, translating technical concepts into commercial terms, and engaging credibly with product and engineering teams.

• Exceptional executive presence along with strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating a proven ability to build trust and influence at the C-suite level, both with partners and within the organization.

• Strong analytical skills and financial modeling expertise, with experience in developing business cases, conducting competitive analyses, and presenting ROI frameworks to executive audiences.

• Demonstrated ability to act as an internal orchestrator, mobilizing and aligning cross-functional teams (product, engineering, legal, finance, marketing) without direct authority.

• Experience in managing multi-year joint business plans and converting long-term strategy into structured, accountable execution.

• Comfort in operating in globally distributed, remote-first, and asynchronous environments across various time zones and cultures.

• Extensive experience managing global partnerships across multiple regions is highly preferred.
