This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Deliver full-time technical support for carbon accounting and calculations at both project and program levels.
• Assist in business development initiatives.
• Oversee the technical design and review of blue carbon initiatives focusing on mangroves and other tidal wetlands, including restoration and conservation efforts.
• Analyze and interpret carbon emissions data utilizing advanced biostatistical methods.
• Recognize trends and patterns to aid in informed decision-making.
• Create and assess predictive models and statistical tools for anticipating future carbon emissions and/or growth.
• Evaluate and model risks associated with sea-level rise, sediment accretion, submergence, erosion, salinity, wetland migration, and related non-permanence factors.
• Develop and review technical components of AFOLU carbon projects and programs.
• Offer guidance on project typology, eligible methodologies, and carbon monitoring, reporting, and verification processes.
• Compile literature and field data, including forest inventory data, for GHG accounting protocols.
• Create Excel and Python models for baseline, ex-ante carbon calculations, and ex-post emission reductions/removals.
• Conduct visits to remote project sites, primarily in developing nations, to verify fieldwork supporting forest-based carbon initiatives.
• Manage in-situ land-use and land-cover data collection and evaluate the biophysical and socio-economic feasibility of NbS/AFOLU carbon projects.
• Assist Project Managers with various international projects, ensuring tasks remain within budget and timeline constraints.
• Convey technical subjects to non-technical audiences and manage a diverse workload within tight deadlines.
• At least 5 years of experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation pertaining to natural ecosystems, with a strong focus on mangrove ecosystems.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in carbon modeling and statistical analysis.
• Proven background in quantifying GHG emissions in successful carbon projects that adhere to market standards.
• Practical knowledge of wetland hydrology, sediment accretion and erosion, water table dynamics, salinity, the distinction between organic and mineral soils, and soil organic carbon accounting.
• Proficient in statistical software and data analysis tools, including Python.
• Completed coursework in biometrics, biostatistics, modeling, programming, GIS analysis, soil science, and forest systems.
• A Bachelor’s degree in applied natural sciences such as forestry, ecology, natural resources, or biogeochemistry is strongly recommended.
• A preferred master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, or a related discipline.
• Solid understanding of mathematical and statistical concepts related to forest growth, yields, and harvests.
• Comprehensive knowledge of mangrove ecosystems, biogeochemical modeling, and Verra methodologies VM0033, VMD0050, VMD0051, and VMD0052.
• Experience in forest monitoring, REDD+ carbon accounting, and MRV processes.
• Familiarity with ACR, CDM, VCS, FCPF, and CAR accreditation programs and standards.
• Strong skills in MS Office, particularly advanced Excel modeling capabilities.
• Understanding of spatial software applications.
• Excellent written and fluent spoken English proficiency.
• Knowledge of at least one foreign language is preferred, ideally French, Spanish, or Portuguese.
• Experience with GHG market standards, guidelines, and protocols.
• Background working in international environments, particularly in developing countries.
• Ability to collaborate effectively while managing deliverables independently and adhering to tight deadlines.
